Frantic Forest ~ LoL Hero Lane Wars (Wintermaul Wars style concept)

(Hopefully i can explain this well enough, i am a bit tired, but if you are familiar with Wintermaul Wars you will know what I am talking about)

This game mode gives summoners the ability to summon new types of more powerful minions with their gold. Each minion summoned by this method increases the passive gold income of the team. High Quality minions cost more gold, and Killing Higher Quality minions yields more bounty.

It takes time for minions to stock, so level one won’t be available for 15 seconds, Minion level ; Pre-Stock Time; Stock Interval; Stock Max; Name

level 1; 15 seconds ; 5 seconds; 15 ; Ranged Minion level 2: 30 seconds; 10 seconds ; 15 ; Melee Minon level 3; 1 min; 20 seconds; 15 ; Cannon level 4; 1.5 min; 30 second; 10 ; Wolf Pack level 5; 2 min; 40 second; 10 ; Raptor Pack level 6; 2.5 min; 50 second; 10 ; Rock Pack level 7; 3 min; 60 second ; 10 ; Gromp level 7; 5 min; 100 second; 2 ; Dragon level 8; 8 min; 160 second; 1 ; Baron or similar

(I don’t know if baron has legs , so maybe the Poro King would work better, or the shop keeper’s yak)

(The pre-stock and stock interval times for baron could be doubled as it does take about 20 minutes for baron to appear, but it is not likely teams will have the money to summon him that early.)

Summoned Dragon and Baron would not give buffs to the enemy team i don’t think.

The summoned minions spawn in the back and will join the next wave of minions that would normally pass by. The normal minions start by the back as usual. The waves would each be 150% as large (without summoned minions) due to there only being two lanes. (If it is a 5v5 map, which is what I had in mind)

Summoning a minion gives 2% or 3% of it’s cost as passive gold income to the team per 10 seconds. (Originally it was 33% per 20 second, but income was not shared among the team) [This is 0.5 x 33% = 16% x 0.2 = ~ 3%]

Minions originally cost 300% of their bounty in order to be summoned into a wave, and they are only summoned one time when they are paid for. (For packs, it would be the combined bounty for the pack).

(So Ranged minion has 17g bounty so it would cost 51g to summon into a wave; (this may be high, but each person can put in 10g)

If both red and blue are dead, there should be a circle in the middle of the jungle granting +40% movement speed for 2 seconds or something to account for how large the jungle is, and how it would take a longer time that usual because if the map were of similar scale to summoners rift it is like running from one corner to the other.

I would see an ADC and Support in one lane, and then a Top Lane Tank and AP carry in the other lane, with a jungler. But I am just presuming things based around how common that set-up is.

Possible Changes to the Classic WMW style.

In the original game, minions spawned in the river, and there was no way for a player’s only unit (builder) to cross the river. That would not work for a LoL style game, so the spawn has been moved from the river to the back so the summoned minions now accompany the normal waves, and of course units and champs can move about freely in the river.

In the original game, one did not need to visit a shop to purchase minions. If one had to do this it would hinder any abilities to fuel one’s push with more minions with the gold one has earned while fighting during the push. If one did have to return to the shop to purchase minions, then having two more shops, one at each end of the river, would be sensible.

The original game functioned on a lives system, where if a creature reached the boat alive, it would take away a life, and when you run out of lives, you lost. I feel that the core system would work better when champs are involved as opposed to mazing with towers.

In the original game minions would not attack towers, and that is obviously changed in this version where the minions will attack towers like normal.

Players can pool their money to buy large creeps. (Baron is say 2000 gold to summon, this is 2 x 1000g tokens and these are made of 10x 100g tokens each.)

Each unit can equip 6 items which are seen in the store and will be displayed as accompanying the main minion if it is a group. Stat gains are a percent of the actual, and the cost of the items is this %, multiplied by 5. The summoned minion has the item(s) each time it is spawned. (Multiplied by 5 because it would either be very strong or the minion would be summoned multiple times with the item). (If items for minions are involved, it would make sense that a champ would have to be at the shop in order to purchase an item for a minion)

The Mini Monsters gain a % of the bonuses that the main monster does.

E.g

Crimson Raptor; Raptor ;

Raptor has 20.8% health bonus of Crimson Raptor Chief 100% attack speed bonus 33% Armor 33 % MR ? 100% move speed

minion rank; % stat gain ; item cost 1; 5% ; 25% 2; 10% ; 50% 3; 15% ; 75% 4; 20% ; 100% 5; 25% ; 125% 6; 30% ; 150% 7; 40% ; 200% 8; 50% ; 250%

So an Infinity Edge (3800g) for Baron would give +40 AD ; 10% critical strike chance; and cause critical strikes to deal 225% damage. This would cost 9500 gold which could be pooled by the team.

(I don’t remember if minions in WMW had abilities or not)

Summoned Units could have some abilities, these could be similar to champion abilities that are similar to the smite bonus of the minion, or a spell of the minion.

Minion; Ability Ranged Minion ; Silver Bolts (Vayne) ; Headshot (Cait) ; Urgot Passive Melee Minion ; Double strike (Yi) ; Jax Passive; Graves Passive Cannon ; Splash (tristiana w/o bomb delay) ; Bouncing Bomb (Ziggs); Ziggs Passive Wolf Pack ; Bloodlust (Tyrnd) ; Warwick Passive; Trundle Bite Raptor ; True Sight ; Udyr Phoenix Stance; Nautilus Passive Rock; Stun on 3 hit (Old Skarner) ; Malphite Passive; Brutal Strikes (Malphite) Gromp ; AoE Shield (Mundo) ; Deadly Venom (twitch) ; Slow on hit (Ashe) Dragon ; Stun with AoE Breath (Annie) ; Blind (Quinn) ; Brand Passive (With auto) Baron ; Sorakka circle ; Malz passive (little snakes) ; Nocturne Passive

It would cost something like 100g; 250g ; 500g multiplied by minion rank in order to gain ability 1, 2 , or 3.

Each Tower can also carry 3, 4, or 5 items (however many spots the tower has open; i know it carries some items. Each tower can be equipped independently, and the items are lost when the tower dies. Items for a tower cost 50% of their normal cost, but provide 100% of their effect. (As there are 11 towers and only 5 players.

Towers and Minions can be equipped at the fountain.

Once an item has been bought for a minion or tower, it cannot be sold, but i can be moved into storage if the team would rather equip something else.

Changing equipment on a tower or minion would work like a surrender vote, it takes 66% majority or to change the item (so some troll doesn’t take off your infinity edge and give your wolf a sightstone). It would not take a vote to put an item on a minion if it does not have one equipped.

I tried not to give the minions any active abilities unless they already had some (baron and dragon) in which case I gave them bonuses or similar abilities.

If a minion had an active item, the player could tell the minion to use it if it was within 1000 range of the minion.

e.g click minion then control+# for use item.

This about wraps up what I can remember from winter maul wars and how I think it could be remembered within this game. WMW and Hero Line Wars were really popular right alongside DOTA back in the days of Warcraft III Battle.net custom games, and I think it would be awesome to see some of the other battle.net classics have some sort of place where they could be played, or at least a tribute.

This might take some work, but I believe that this mode would see many players due to it’s depth, the ability to be successful due to income if your team does well (rather than suck all game because you went 0/5 early), and of course the fun factor of summoning multiple dragons to go assault the enemy base.

If anyone has any comments or remembers other battle.net games that they could enjoy seeing or talking about a LoL version of, feel free to chime in. Thanks for reading!

Nobody remembers wintermaul wars? It was a bnet classic just like DOTA, and this game is like 95% based off of DOTA. I think the two could be melded and create an awesome game mode, even though it is not exactly wintermaul wars.

The way items could work on a unit. With a stock maximum of 15, each player could have 3 cannons that they could set up equipment for, and they could modify the inventory of their cannon within a separate shop panel (like black market brawlers). They click on the cannon then they can click items in the minion shop to buy items for that minion.

Players could also spend their gold to send another player’s unit if say they wanted to send Yancy’s wicked cannon instead of their own poorly equipped cannon, but Yancy didn’t have 200g to spare.
