Everyone keeps saying they are the best team at worlds. but as a third seed from korea i dont see how, i dont know the players and they lost 3/0 vs skt and barely beat KZ so i dont understand why everyone keeps saying they are number 1, can anyone explain this too me?

Mob mentality.

Seriously, don't pay attention to the esports scene. Its fanbase is a cult of conformists.

They are definitely the best team in play-ins. Best team at worlds tho?? Nah. Korea is just a strong region. Only time will tell if people are overrating them

Accounting for recency, the claim for best leaves much to be desired. But to be specific, Damwon is one of the three "new era" teams that took LCK by storm alongside Griffin and Sandbox. Where the notion of best team accounts for is their consistent discussion of being top of the table in a parity driven LCK season.

The keyword here however is "parity." Yes it cannot be ignored of their fallout in the summer playoffs, but "barely beating KZ" shouldn't support the claim as to why they wouldn't be considered a contender. Damwon has incredible skill ceilings per player. But like the other Korean reps including SKT, they harbor a vulnerability that with the right mentality by opponents, they'll flop.

Information aside, who the hell is saying Damwon #1 and isn't being just a wee bit delusional or overconfident?

I've yet to hear anyone say DWG are the "best team at Worlds". Who's saying that? Reddit people or what?

I have heard(myself) that DWG are the 3rd-4th but not 1st. Look at SKT back in 2016 where they got beat by KT Rolster and KT didn't even participate at Worlds that year. Samsung Galaxy couldn't get past the 2nd round of Playoffs by getting swept but yet, they made it to the World Championship Finals twice in 2016 and 2017.

" i dont know the players" "but as a third seed from korea i dont see how"

  • Ok so you don't know what you are talking about, right? So just take what people are saying with a pinch of salt and do your own analysis on the matter.

A lot of people are hyping Damwon because they have IG previous coach

honestly I've watched a lot of LCK and for sure Damwon did good for a newcomer to the LCK and they stopped a surging KZ as well BUT

when I watched the games I felt like the KZ series specifically was pretty awful. KZ was playing really weird, taking weird fights and then they would just lose and it's like wut? If you watch LPL you know those games some times be throw fest and that series wit KZ v DW seemed like i was watching a really shitty LPL game.

I know Damwon had a good regular season and the LCK is for sure competitive and I think they are good but I don't think they are as good as people are making it seem. OFC its just opinion at this point and we won't really know till they get into groups cause they should (along with the other major region playin teams) smash

IDK i think Damwon has a good team but the wins they put up against KZ are just head scratching to me.

"barely beat KZ" has no context to it. Kingzone placed 7th in summer split but did so with a 9-9 record, and were the best team in Korea before Rift Rivals and especially before their team owners started being assholes to coaching staff and players. KZ made one last hurrah in regional finals and honestly looked scary going into the Damwon series because they handled Afreeca (another team that people thought was dangerous) and Sandbox with ease.

Damwon is easily top 8 at worlds, top 5 might be a stretch. But they're definitely a dark horse with insane mechanical players, which is why so many teams don't want them in their group coming in from the play-in stage.
