Why do teams recruit players from other countries?

The fact that people are so caught up in "Go China!" or "Go Brazil!" and have players from other countries playing for them confuses me, especially for Edward Gaming. Two out of five are Korean (their biggest enemies from what I've seen through pro-play). It feels like the Olympics where you can simply buy an Olympian from another country to win medals for you.

Could someone explain this phenomenon so I can finally understand why this is happening? I'm honestly, sincerely curious.

All because NA is the worst of the major regions. US teams at this point have no place in Worlds without a foreign player boosting their roster. EU, China, and Korea have all managed to greater and lesser degrees live up to hype around their best players and teams. NA started getting EU players in Edward and Bjergson. After that, other regions and teams have started fighting to bring the missing piece from other regions to their roster with hopes to win Worlds. It's best for the players to have options globally. It would be nice to see a broader All Star tournament based around regional exclusive rosters. Maybe during the "off season"?

Teams represent the regions they come from, so as fans, we don't care what region the players initially came from, just who they're fighting for now. A decent example of this is the NHL and how a Canadian team hasn't won the Stanley Cup in years, but when you actually look at the rosters of the US teams that have won the past several years, most of the players are Canadian (with some European countries mixed in), but nobody considers them playing for Canada until they're on a team located in Canada.

talent is everywhere. difference is people believe that certain regions have a high quality of players. truth is Korea cycles through more players in their pro scene so have a better chance to see who works or doesnt. America, we keep people beyond their peek and maintain friendships.

and the Olympics restrict people of foreign countries competing for a foreign country.

honestly a good support staff is more important than an naturally skilled individual.
