This is my first year I'm watching worlds relatively intently to try and learn more about professional play into improve myself as a league player in general ( my interest may or may not have had something to do with the new pick em, but I digress) . I do have a question though what exactly does the coach do ?

http://worlds.lolesports.com/en_US/worlds/articles/origens-coach-hermit-comes-out-his-shell offers some insight, though it´ll be slightly different for each team.

A lot of the coach's job has to do with team strategy rather than individual play, most pro players are light years better as a player than their coaches and know how certain situations should play out mechanically. Coaches are mainly in charge of pick bans to make sure the team has a good comp to play with and that the enemy team doesn't get champions that will auto win them the game. Coaches are also mainly in charge of setting up scrims against enemy teams and testing out new team strategies in scrims and make sure the team plays as a team and not as five solo players.

Hope that helps.
