Worlds Playoffs Results Demand a Revisit of the Tournament Format

I think most people would agree that Groups this year was exciting -- but the playoffs, excepting SKT vs ROX, were unilaterally crap.

So let's revive the ghost of IPL 5 and haunt Riot with it.

Groups will always be more exciting than the tournament/bracket stage in my opinion. More teams 16 opposed to only 8 with more games and more unpredictability. Look at LGD last year, G2 this year in groups unpredictable.
It's like asking a NBA fans during playoffs which is funnier to watch the first round of 16 teams(8 series) or the other rounds(4-2-Finals) I'm pretty sure mostly everyone will say the first round. Why? Once the first round is over everyone knows who will most likely advance from each series opposed to the Group where 2-3 if not all 4 teams in each group are great teams.(2015 Group D, LGD-TSM-OG-KT) would be an example of this.

I'm not going to go in great detail explaining my own Worlds if given a chance because I'v posted my example numerous times on the boards for the past 2 weeks but this would be my example in a much shortened summary.

Add more teams to compete at Worlds, even out each region( 4 teams from the LCK-LPL-NA-EU-IWC-LMS) 6 groups with each #1 Seed from each region having their own Group A LCK #1 B LPL #1 C NA # 1 D EU # 1 E IWC F LMS # 1

Riot introduced MSI as a Worlds Group stage deciding factor. NA was the runner ups at MSI and their prize was a # 1 Seed in a group with #2 LPL ROYAL # 3 LCK SAMSUNG and # 3 SPLYCE with also NA's # 3 seed in Pool 3 ? Makes 0 Sense to me.

If Riot was going to make MSI count as a introduction for Worlds MAKE IT SIMILAR TO MSI. LCK WON MSI. WIth LCK's # 1 seed they should get the # 4 IWC region(because they finished last place at MSI so their #4 should get the hardest group. # 4 Eu second to last at MSI. { Now lets say RNG and FW faced off in a 3rd place tie-breaker, I'm saying RNG would have won.} LMS # 4.

Long story short here are what the Groups with more teams with including MSI region performances, with the exception that the Group stage shouldn't be a best of 1 but a best of 3. EU-NA played in a best of 2-3 for half a year and LCK/LPL for YEARS in that format and yet the Biggest tournament of the YEAR is a Group stage Best of 1 ?? WHY? GROUP A LCK # 1 LMS # 4 EU # 4 IWC

GROUP B NA # 1 LPL # 4 EU # 3 IWC

GROUP C LPL # 1 LMS # 3 EU # 2 IWC

GROUP D LMS # 1 LCK # 4 NA # 4 LPL # 3

GROUP E EU # 1 NA # 2 LPL # 2 LMS # 2

GROUP F IWC LCK # 2 LCK # 3 NA # 3

Each regions' # 1 Seed are given a chance even if a small chance depending on MSI again to advance from Groups. 2 teams from each group advances( 12 teams) They then face off in a Best OF series elimination games( 6 teams left) The last 6 teams face off similar to MSI where it all began in the first place. The 4 teams with the best records after competing against each other twice advances to the 2nd Playoff bracket. 2 "semi-Final games" then 1 Final game series to determine a World champion.

I would like to read anyone's comments about my thoughts on the matter.

The the double-elimination format is vastly superior to the current format in pretty much every possible way. I have absolutely no idea why RIOT hates that format.

The current format has provided us with a loop-sided bracket, where the results say that:

  • C9 is the best NA team
  • H2K is the best non-korean team
  • H2K is on the same level as ROX

Now i do like H2K... but even i can see (despite my EU bias) that something is wrong here...
