LCS Diversity

It is far from a pure meritocracy like real sports or other high level pursuits. Therefore shouldn't they be Equal Opportunity Employers? For very hard to replicate talents EEOC isn't crucial like the NFL, building a military laser cannon, or curing cancer. Playing pro league is hardly that, and it is easy to replicate high level play especially with training. Not only the teams but also Riot's commentating team. Seems like they hire who they know which is the exact reason the EEOC exist for minorities.

If you're attacking the players:

  1. Teams pick from the top of the top. They do not hire bronzies to train all the way to LCS ready. I get that lots of low ELO people dream of being scouted for a team and trained to the top, but it isn't happening because it isn't worth the investment that may not pay off. The NFL doesn't hire eight-year-olds from peewee football leagues; those eight-year-olds who dream of it work hard and get scouted.
  2. The players are as diverse as they are. In NA and EU the top players are random people of all backgrounds who dedicated tons of time to becoming great. No grand conspiracy.

If you're attacking Riot hiring for on-air talent:

  1. Yes, Riot's NA face will always be the white dudes, and I'm sure in the future they'll be hiring friends of those white dudes.
  2. Riot won't get busted for their hiring practices because they have an extremely diverse employee base - just not casting. I'm sure I could get a janitorial job ezpz
