Are players like bjergsen, the ones we really want representing us?
Alright, since the title is very vague, i just want to phrase it here to. when i say, "representing us" i don't mean, as the USA in the LCS, i mean, as players in general, below, will be my main body, talking about this.
Last week was an event by the name of "extra life". it was a charity set up to help hospitals that are housing children that are stuck in these hospitals for an indefinite amount of time, the guys over at rooster teeth did a livestream for 24 hours, and it wasn't simply 4 people from rooster teeth, the stream was comprised of not only rooster teeth, but it wasn't simply a rooster teeth stream, ~40 different people showed up, including the entire staff from inside gaming daily, a sub-channel of the largest channel on youtube: Machinima.
During this team, bjergsen, scarra, and the oddone streamed.
For those of you who do not watch twitch daily, let me sum up the average amount of viewers each person gets.
Bjergsen-~50,000 Scarra-~10,000 Theoddone-~25,000
Now, during this entire extra life charity, none of them streamed for extra life, they simply streamed...well for themselves. which in itself isn't bad, i mean, maybe they just didn't know about it, but i highly doubt this.
This is not the only reason why i'm making this post, although, the main thing that upset me was the lack of....well there is no better word than "care" from the league of legends professional streaming community.
Alright, now down to the sub-optimal things.
First let me list the guys....
Bjergsen
Scarra
Theoddone
As you will notice, i only have problems with bjergsen, being one of the most looked at NA players now, i feel he sets the biggest example for league of legends players everywhere.
So let me talk about bjergsens stream, or what i've seen of it: Sub mode is on 100% of the time. He never communicates with the chat. There is no "follow" "subscribed" "donated" sounds or acknowledgements on stream.
Alright, now to explain this in a way for those of you who do not watch twitch and are not familliar with it's system. Subscriber mode, is something that is used for the twitch chat, that allows the owner of a channel\mods to make it so only people who have subscribed to the channel may talk. This is quite frowned upon in the twitch community as it limits the amount that the streamer will talk with people, though, in some cases this is not the actual case, with a streamer like lethalfrag.
He never communicates with his stream. (at least from what i have seen ~2 hours). just...i don't know how to put it any other way, he literally never talks with anyone on his stream. he ignores the chat, and leaves it on sub more 100% of the time, this also seg-ways into the last part, there are no acknowledgements for those who donate, subscribe, or follow, something even the smallest of channels incorperate.
Now, not only does he make a terrible person for twitch, but he also hasn't exactly been the best person in league of legends. last year, he was fined 1000$ because he was trying to get another player to leave his team.
Now, i just feel like these are the kind of people we should not allow to represent us, they do not only not care about charities that they can help immensely, but someone like bjergsen will ignore 90% of the people on twitch, something that doesn't translate well to the game, or to real life.
Well these are just my two cents, well more like 512085 cents, but w\e. i just had to say something, it really upset me that no one really showed a care for the extra life charity last week. rooster teeth raised ~200,000$ in 24 hours, and they had 40,000 viewers. if someone like bjergsen or theoddone had streamed for charity, a lot more would have went to helping raise money for people who needed it.
Thanks for reading i guess, leave your response if you want.
