Viewer experience on proplay And Warmongs
There's a few items in the game that just feel terrible to play against. Some are based on who you are playing and in what mode (i.e Teemo in Aram vs 300g Oracle), while others it doesn't matter what game mode it is, they feel awful to play against (Warmongs). You can deal with this in Solo Queue fairly easy cause not everyone builds Warmongs and the odds of seeing it on multiple players isn't nearly as high as it is in Pro-play or in modes like Aram. I wont get into my issues with Warmongs in Aram because those issues have been heard and ignored by Riot from several others who feel the same why that I do. What I'd like to express is my perspective as a viewer on Warmongs in Pro-play.
It's no surprise to see pro players using the most broken combinations of items available as exploiting the meta is the best means of winning games. That said, as a viewer and player of League, I tend to find when watching pro games that involve multiple Warmongs usually results in getting bored watching.
There's only so much excitement you can get out of watching a team throw everything at a target and attempt to focus them down (which is the primary way to beat Warmongs) only to watch multiple members walk away with slivers of health and full heal with no advantage gained from the team who blew a bunch of resources. It seems like having multiple warmongs on the team exacerbates this issue. When one person gets low, tank 2 steps in while tank 1's Warmongs regens them, then switch and repeat til your opponent has nothing left to throw at you and then walk at them full health.
Personally, I hate Warmongs as an item. I feel like it lowers the required skill needed to make good plays and mitigates a lot of the punishment you should receive for poor positioning or shot calling. Personal feelings on the item itself aside, watching Pro games with multiple Warmong's gets dull. Yes sieges are part of winning, but when sieging takes up the majority of the late game with no real good way of punishing or playing against it, it gets boring to watch. Slow bleed outs by out regening your enemy because you built an one particular item on multiple people just makes me watch streamers til I hear the casters start yelling in hopes something worth watching is going on.
Personally, I would love to see Warmongs just outright removed from the game. I dont see Riot doing that even after the recent "nerf" to Warmongs (making it a 2.5 item vs a 2nd item isn't much of a nerf). I would love to see it revisited at least. Make it so that at the most only one person on a team can build it, and it's locked out from your team mates. Pro's should be communicating enough to make decisions on whom it should be built on. Another alternative would be to lower it's healing threshold. Instead of full healing the user, make it heal up to 60-75%. There should be some punishment for absorbing the damage you take while sieging and stepping out of place, right now ESPECIALLY in pro Warmongs completely mitigates this.
Warmong's isn't new to pro-play and I'm sure has been the topic of conversation within riot, but as a avid viewer of pro-play I can say it's one of the main culprits in my loss of interest in longs game. Some long games are explosive and scrappy and fun to watch. Multi-warmong tank slap fest... well... is not.
