The 2018 change in format for NALC
Okay, 98% of folks were adamant that the best of 3 had improved NALCS teams making them more competitive.
I want to know after watching the crash and burns at Worlds are you sticking to your guns on that now, lol?

Sure am. there is no substitute for seat time on stage. And the players that need it most? New talent. IMT took a chance to develop Cody. Whould it have paid off with best of ones? Maybe not. So what does a team do? Do they bring up new talent knowing he only has oh 18 games now vs at least 36 and one game more for series that go 3? Or do they hedge and bring up a has been bottom tier player to get by. The latter becomes more likely imo and in the long run, that hurts NA.
If you don't have time for best of threes any more than just make it two games and in your standings just count games. Don't count series. None of these stupid systems where 2-0= 3points, and 1-1 equals 1 point. No. 2-0 means 2-1 and 1-1 means 1-1. That's how baseball does it. Why can't lol? And at the end of the season the team with the best winning percentage gets the top seed, etc. Don't go all the way back to one.
RIOT only cares about $. They don’t care about fans, competition, or the players.
BO1s is what gets RIOT the most money. Franchising is what gets RIOT the most money. That’s all they care about!
Yeah if it was best of 3 the western teams would have won 2-1 so I'm in favor of it. XD
Seriously though I don't really care.
LCS is a waste. Watching anything outside of LCK and you're just watching inferior play. It's like watching an MMA promotion outside of the UFC...
I wish this topic had more input from RIOT. Its clear that this whole change of format has not been well-seen, because I would expect more responses made then the limited exposure here and on the article on esports: http://www.lolesports.com/en_US/articles/na-lcs-format-update-2018
For me, this is a huge step backwards. Reducing the amount of competitive games the NALCS teams have, is only going to weaken our chances at a World's title. Now, if RIOT wanted to boost moral and overall exposure, wouldn't you think that they'd want a winning team to come from NA? I mean... isn't RIOT in North America? If failing viewership is the concern... why would you want to reduce the potential future interest solely to get some cash grab advertising now? People inherently like winners. That's why they go to see endless movies where the good guys win. It gives them a satisfying feeling. If all you ever see is the good guy terminated, you'd probably stop watching as well. Mainly because you no longer will want to cheer for them.
I'll be honest I find the round robin group stages to be boring. Would much rather see best of 3's. They already drag on for 2 weeks as it is so it's not like there is a lack of time/space to fit in a few extra games.
I just think it will allow more strategy. It allows you to adjust. You don't have to shake off rust as much. Just think it would be better. See teams at their best. Let them adjust in the moment.
It's a fair point to make.
A switch to Best of 3s, taking up more time and space and causing a drop in audience... and TSM/(Insert team here) fall out in Groups, C9 makes it out to fall in Quarters.
I think at this point it's something more than player experience that's making the difference here.
If anything, Franchising may help with that as several of the organizations joining are ones with much more experience running pro sports teams so I suspect the biggest changes may be behind the scenes, which can help more than you'd think.
