Are there some champions you just don't understand why they get chosen?

Every time I see a TahmKench or Karma I cringe. I have seen teams with these champs win, but more often than not they get run over. This is particularly true with mid karma, who does ok until they miss 2 CS and then they fall off the face of the planet.

Are there other champs that you think are wildly over rated that keep getting picked?

Nope. Blame the player not the champ.

It's simple, these champs have versatility which make them viable in pro hands.

For starters, both Karma and TK assist other champs well. Even if they can be "weak" alone, they offer synergy that a strong carry champ would not. Karma is a valuable flex option. If you want to make an early pick which can be used in more than one lane or role, Karma is safe and difficult to counter pick as you may guess the wrong lane. TK can sometimes flex outside bot lane as well, but even when he isn't, he is a VERY beefy tank, can either protect and save an ally, or possibly isolate an enemy to be taken down, and the flanking potential of his Ult is always strong.

I'd be more surprised to see a Galio pick currently.

As others have said, TahmKench & Karma offer a lot of utility. They're good solo lane picks IF you're not expecting that laner to carry. (ie. if you have Jensen mid and Doublelift bot then putting impact on utility isn't a bad idea because you're not looking for him to kill a lot of people. Yes, you can argue that other champs offer OTHER utility (Gangplank with split push and global damage for example), but it depends on what your team can best work with. TK for example is great for allowing your carry to go super aggro because you can rescue say an Akali who finds themselves outnumbered after diving for a kill, or subject to to CC dump.

I also agree that W/L isn't as great at the pro level because lots of guys can have pocket picks that skew things. A champ could be 1-3 after one week of LCS, but the 1 could be godly on the champ. If all the other teams target ban that player after week 2, the champ will have negative winrate, but that one player is super strong on it. Granted, USUALLY these are more "oddball" picks like Aurelion Sol, but it can happen on semi-META champs.

If I had to pick one champ, I'd pick NA Jayce. Memes aside, he seems relatively easy to shutdown early, and especially in the current META, that is super hard to recover from. He just seems to be "famine" WAY too often to be worth his "feast or famine" kit.

I know exactly what you mean. Every time I see Karma locked in, I go on ahead and consider that team the probable losing team. I'll never understand it.

Regarding Tahm, the nerf to his speed while carrying a team mate has really cut down on his effectiveness. Guys that were legendary eaters now find themselves far less effective at saving someone and kiting that someone back. He's kind of a less effective Zonyas now. . That leaves him pretty much as a meat shield and a rapid transit vehicle (and that distance was nerfed too) You'll see him disappear if he doesn't get a bit of buff back.

As for karma she has always dropped off relative to other champs in power. But in exchange for that she's oppressive early. To play her effectively, you have to utilize her power early, then transition over to a more supportive role late. Here RE can peel a whole team. W has always been hit and miss with her. And her RQ is huge early.
