GP's barrels can put out consistent AOE burst damage from extremely far away. Any GP player worth his oranges knows that barrels will land 100% of the time if 3 or more barrels are chained unless the enemy team flashes. The time it takes for the fuse to travel between 2 barrels is enough time to put down a third one, and a forth after, and a fifth after if needed. This means that his 3rd barrel will pretty much be point and click AOE like Annie's Tibbers ultimate.

Not to mention that the barrels do ~2k damage late game with 50% armor penetration and can be placed at 1k range while simultaneously grant some vision.

As well, GP himself is an extremely safe laner. While this may not be as valuable in solo Q, in LCS this advantage just makes him so much harder to shut down as he can easily escape ganks and farm with ranged abilities. In addition, his bonus gold passive pretty much guarantees a lead against his lane opponent mid to late game. The other 2 champions that can passively acquire advantages TF, and Mord, are also highly contested at professional play.

Gangplank was practically made for Worlds. Jinx is a strong champion, but without the same amount of safety that GP has, she is vulnerable to burst champions who can shut her down.

Yeah, my hopes for that game went way down when I saw that. Sneaky wasn't the best on Twitch even when he was a strong pick. I don't see any reason to be picking him into Jinx these days.
