So, why are all the people hating on the idea of the LCS going behind a paywall

You do realize that is what is going to give the teams that stable income that fans are claiming teams need. The LCS needs to be ran for profit. You can't get that w/o a paywall.

Except if the game becomes unpopular and dies, there is not going to be ANY profit in the mid-long term

And on one want to pay for something that has always be free, you could somehow convince someone to pay for extra additional content (IF IT IS WORTH), but not for the base stream (also because, it is Riot main advertising venue, so they want to reach the highest number of people possible9

I enjoyed my time watching the LCS but at this point it's meh to me because of a number of reasons.

  1. I'm not paying to watch people play a game. The NBA/NFL/NHL don't and those sports have been around much longer than LCS has so.

  2. At this point I'm pretty sure there are numerous amounts of people who don't care about the LCS or any League event anyways nowadays; and why should they we already know who will win anyways it's been 6+ years and Korea has dominated the League scene and will continue to do so and with Riot doing this paywall situation they know they're losing viewers because the smart people gave up watching the LCS all together anyhow. TSM wins NA.........FNC/G2 wins EU..............AHQ/FW represent LMS.........EDG for China and SKT for LCK. WORLDS starts and SKT wins. Just saved everyone a full year of league # Spoilers.

  3. The game is becoming shorter and shorter. I enjoyed the LCS/League back in 2013-2014 because games would go on average 38-39 mins but now try to play a regular game and tell me your games end around the 15-20 min mark in SOLO Q but in the pro scene games end much shorter from teams getting the smallest of leads. Who wants to pay to watch 20 mins of league where 1 team gets destroyed and you know which team will win from just the first 2 mins of the game.

I wish the best for Riot/League but I for one don't care anymore but I hope all ends well with their situation.

I can't wait for LCS to go PPV. When that happens viewership will drop like a stone, Riot will go into panic mode, and players will have a good chance of receiving a free skin because "Riot values their playerbase".

It'll probably end up being a "meh" skin like Riot Nasus, but hey, free is free.

If the LCS goes pay-per-view it will die overnight and North American LoL will be gone for good. It will never rise again if they make this mistake. I can watch football for free. I can watch basketball for free. Baseball for free. Tennis for free. And every other esport and even every other LoL region's competitions for free. Making the LCS cost money will just kill the concept entirely. There are **very **few LoL players I would pay to watch compete.

Because putting a free event behind a pay wall would murder it's income.

Don't you also think that maybe, these kind of events have ticket costs? Sponsorship? Donations? Discounts on the in-game store? Ad revenue?

How the heck do you think the pros earn so much money from competitive play alone if Riot didn't profit?

Because you don't Pay Per View to watch Football/Basketball/Baseball/etc. Pro Sports makes millions (billions?) per year without charging people at home to watch.

The problem with that is

A. People will just not pay it B. People are broke these days man C. I Can Understand Like Paying For Premium Access such as no Ads and Exclusive Behind The Curtain Stuff but not to just watch the game

so its a damned if do damned if you don't

I like the LCS, I do try to watch it. Riot is welcomed to do it; It's free market. One will not indulge in. I don't pay for my sports, I don't plan to pay to watch others play.
