You don't have to be Diamond 5 in solo q. The aspect of the solo Q rank is solely up to the team to decide. You could be gold and get into the LCS, as long as your team qualifies. Anyways, to get into the LCS, you must get into a 5s team . That team must get into the into the top 10 of the challenger teams. They then make an invitational for those teams. The top 2 teams(usually) play against the relegated teams from Challenger series in a BO5 format like the LCS relegations. Then once in, the Challenger teams fight through out the split. #1 Challenger team gets into LCS, #2 and #3 fights the 2 lowest LCS Relegated teams, etc.
