Rek'Sai Changes for 7.11

Hey Party People,

In a few brief hours Rek'Sai's update will be on PBE. The aim of the update is to bring Rek'Sai back to her roots. Rek’Sai has a great fantasy, but we don't think her gameplay has been fulfilling that promise to players for some time. Rek’Sai should be a void predator that enemies fear at all points throughout the game. When she's nearby, she should be a distinct and individual threat.

Rek'Sai has been a slow burn passion project for our team for awhile, and we had a few set goals in mind that defined our changes:

Goals:

  • Make Rek'Sai more of a Diver, with individual threat against the opposition's carries
  • Tone down elements of her kit that let her excel in professional play and leave her underwhelming in normal play
  • Give her higher moments of success
  • Ensure that her melee pattern has more distinct success and failure cases
  • Allow Rek’Sai to dance in and out of fights, relying on her tunnels and regeneration to survive, not baseline tankiness

We’re holding off on revealing the full changelist, as it'll be uncovered over the next couple of days. Much of the tuning is still in flux, but the bigger directional changes will likely remain consistent.

Directional Changes:

  • Fury of the Xer'Sai (P) :: Fury now generates more quickly, but regeneration per point of Fury is down. Overall regeneration should be quite a bit higher if she has access to enemies.
  • ** Queen's Wrath and Prey Seeker ::** Rek’Sai’s primary damage abilities now scale significantly better with bonus AD. However, Queen's Wrath will do less base damage. Rek’Sai is a land shark who mercilessly hunts her prey, and we want her damage output - and itemization - to represent that fantasy.
  • Burrow / Un-burrow :: Now only knocks up one enemy target at a time.
  • Tunnel :: Cooldowns scale down better over game time. Specifically, we want to significantly increase Rek’Sai’s ability to re-enter tunnels, giving Rek'Sai better options for escaping the same way she entered - or re-joining a fight after she’s left.
  • **Void Rush :: **Her ultimate is all brand new. It no longer allows her to travel cross-map to an existing tunnel. Instead she leaps at enemy champions she's recently done damage to, dealing decent base damage with an execute mechanic.

**Conclusion and Caveat: **

As with all our projects, Rek'Sai will be subject to tuning and followup changes. Moreso than most, she'll hit PBE without fully completed art/sound/mechanics. We'll be brushing those up over the PBE period. Feedback on them is appreciated but we are already well aware have more work to do.

I'll be checking back in here over the next couple of hours to answer more specifics for those curious. We're all excited for you guys to get to try out Rek'Sai on PBE and soon, on Live!

I love that you guys are Presenting these Threads.

Now that Rek'Sai doesn't have a global transport ultimate which gave her a ton of mobility... Are you gonna consider increasing her max tunnel amount?

Darth West5/16/2017, 7:20:31 PM3 votes

She actually sounds fun to play now, thank lord.

I like this change.

I appreciate the change, I will def be buying a skin for her once this hits live so I can enjoy the full experience of this update.

You want Rek'Sai to be an AD heavy diver with her tunnels allowing for more escapes and re-engages? Isn't that a bit dangerous?

Divers tend to have very few ways to disengage a fight once they've committed. Irelia needs to hop to another enemy (if Bladesurge is even off CD after she went in), Xin Zhao needs to burn his ultimate, Jax needs to wait for Leap Strike and then throw down a ward, Lee Sin...yeah, Vi needs to burn her Vault Breaker (which can be body-blocked), Diana needs an enemy to ult to, etc etc.

If Rek'Sai is just a more mobile diver, won't she become objectively the best diver?

This whole thing really brings to mind the question of how you intend to differentiate new assassins from divers as well. Is Rek'Sai really going to play that much differently from Shaco or Kha'Zix since she has high mobility, executes, and stickiness?

Just one thing I need to know What is happening to the Jet Ski?

I love Rek Sai, Thank you riot!

One question I have however is whether her ultimate will still grant bonus attack speed? I mean considering her entire kit at present is based around those power spikes at 6 and 11.

Why burrowed Q doesn't stack fury? You said that all abilities stack fury.

robotmaster5/16/2017, 7:24:40 PM2 votes

Is the doing of the balance team? Just asking they have done a good job from pasted reworks.

LyingOnLine5/16/2017, 7:25:56 PM2 votes

Just how low is the CD on tunnel going to go?

If you push it too low, you just create the Lee Sin problem again, where all control of ability to engage and disengage a fight lies in one character's hands.

Jazong5/16/2017, 7:32:34 PM2 votes

What is the range on that ult? is it more like a nocturne ult with execution dmg? and maybe less range?

Psyrik5/16/2017, 10:13:07 PM2 votes

What about her passive on her ult? is the 20/40/60% att speed still there?

(THANKS FOR THIS UPDATE! -A RekSai main since her release day)

Great to finally see details on this. Looking forward to trying this out!

Considering removing her passive AS steroid, though. I seriously hope Rek'Sais attack speed growth will be higher, then? At the moment, her attack speed isn't even that high (1.4ish at lvl 16, just over 1.0 before that), considering her lack of AA dmg. Her current AS p/lvl is 2%. Lee Sin has 3% per lvl, Xin Zhao has 2.6%, Yasuo has 3.3% and Wukong has 3% - all champions who are comperable to the new Rek'Sai more or less. All but Wukong either have an AS steroid or itemize AS aswell.

I hope you will be monitoring this, as poor scaling AS really feels clunky unless you either itemize it or have a really low CD ability with auto reset (Trundle Q, Rengar Q, Kha Q)

Having now seen her new ult animation, I realize stuff on the PBE is unfinished but can I make a suggestion? As it currently is on the PBE, Rek'Sai dives down and forms a tunnel, bursting out of another tunnel at the end of it to leap at the enemy. The tunnel then collapses. This is both a little unsatisfying, and also can be confusing because there's no visual distinction between what is essentially a fake tunnel and the real ones created by her E. So if I could make a suggestion, when she dives underground, instead of having her dive down into a tunnel, why not use the underground zoom from her old ult? This way there's better clarity between her ult and her E, AND it'd feel more satisfying to show her plowing through underground at high speed to race towards her target before bursting out to leap at them.

Played more games and Im sorry but there is no way she is a diver. Only way to build her is still Tank and she does ZERO damage.

Play someone else you will do SO much better.

5050BS5/28/2017, 8:20:58 PM2 votes

All I can say is that what they had on the PBE will kill her in any play

Jar Jar binks l5/16/2017, 9:28:27 PM2 votes

Are u going to increase her tunnel lenght? And what is her build path now? Im sure she needs to be a bit tanky or she wont survive teamfights or going for the carry

Quinterro5/16/2017, 9:33:40 PM2 votes

I think Rek'Sai should have better scaling of Ad than she has now (in revealed state). It so bad that she will only be punished for building tank and will not be rewarded for building AD. You must build 2 AD items to catch up with her old dmg, it's so damn stupid. She should be rewarded for building a little bit AD and it should increase her damage.

After release she had 95 + (.4 bonus AD). It was ridiculous, but I think only base damage should be lowered and scaling should go up.

I'm someone who have been playing Rek'Sai constantly since her relesae, but I had a big break with playing her because I didn't like her tank build and AD wasn't that much rewarding.

Quinterro5/16/2017, 9:38:30 PM2 votes

Will there be any changes to her E's CD?

Best Ork EU5/16/2017, 9:38:52 PM2 votes

Any plans on W + plant interactions ? Putting W on cd just to trigger a plant leaves you vulnerable. If it's complicated to implement you can just reduce W cooldown.

squingo445/16/2017, 9:40:10 PM2 votes

Please make his E speed sacle with level, so that you can use it less clunkily lategame, without making it broken early.

Grandof5/16/2017, 9:59:29 PM2 votes

As a long time RekSai player my question is about changes to her base stats as well as the change made to her passive before. Her armor was hit pretty hard previously to weaken her early game, will this change be reverted and her armor brought back up? If not what will be made to compensate for clearing the jungle in a weaker level 1-3 state? Her previous tremor sense had a faster tick rate for spotting enemies, this was changed to make it a little less reliable. Now that she needs to hit her prey seeker to dive on someone with her ult with the tick rate go back up so that the skill can be more accurate?

Linna Excel5/16/2017, 7:45:50 PM1 votes

It sounds like you guys want her to be partly skirmisher with her jumping in and out of fights.

Jar Jar binks l5/16/2017, 8:36:33 PM1 votes

Thanks man for answering the question. So she was diver all along, i always thought she was a tank or Jaggernaut like Volibear, good step then to make her like a diver.

Is Volibear a Diver too, im confused now

BlackFlux5/16/2017, 7:45:00 PM1 votes

Well, I am happy to see RekSai getting some work done! I bought her a month or so ago and saw her scalings were...off...and it was near impossible to get the true damage from her E,even in the jungle unless you slow yourself down in the process Is there any rounded dates for the patch rek'sai will be in? her unborrow will only knock up one person now, will it be what's closest to the center or will it prioritize champions? And her ult...The description is kinda confusing. "Instead she leaps at enemy champions she's recently done damage to, dealing decent base damage with an execute mechanic" recently done damage to? is it kinda like a mix of Garen where they get marked for a bit and TwistedFate where when you ult you get sight of the marked people, then ult again to select your target? or is the range kinda like a Vi ult but with a prerequisite to go off

Jar Jar binks l5/16/2017, 7:27:32 PM1 votes

nice she Needs it along with Mundo and Voli. Atleast 1 Tank is getting attetion

Rouwhorst5/17/2017, 3:31:33 PM1 votes

The ultimate looks really cool an can actually be really useful in lane!

If the indicator is visible by others then the indicator is kind of intrusive. If the indicator is only visible to Rek'Sai then I reckon it is fine. When Rek'Sai's ultimate is down the indicator can disappear, unless there is another use for it.

The healing is vastly reduced, and even though rury is easier to get, I think the jungle clears will suffer from this. In the jungle Rek'Sai often already reaches full fury and while doing a camp you want to stay as little as possible idle in the ground, so she does not really benefit from the increased fury gain. In toplane it will be pretty good though.

The Furious Bite AD ratio looks like a big hit. From 80/90/100/110/120% - 160/180/200/220/240% to 50/60/70/80/90 + 85% Bonus AD. The flat damage is just enough to make up for the change of Total AD to Bonus AD. The increase of fury again offsets this, but when you have enough time to stack, like in the jungle, toplane or in prolonged skirmishes, this is a big nerf.

Keep in mind that Bonus AD scaling has no synergy with Steraks and therefore creates less synergy with Trinity Force. Synergy with Steraks is actually something a diver wants because the shield helps him to stay alive in teamfights.
