Introducing: Boards Recap Beta

The Boards aren't perfect, but the Boards Team does make strides every day to implement improvements that are within our scope. I'm excited today to unveil a project that has been on my mind for some time now and that I believe will help connect players with quality Boards content.

Part of the Weekly Community Roundup

The first iteration of a way to aggregate community content came in form of the Weekly Community Roundup, which was an effort to compile the most popular and engaging threads from the previous seven days into a single thread. This project pulled heavily from many aspects of the retired Riot publishing series, Meanwhile in Top Lane. Throughout the month of June, we published a Roundup each week, but it soon became apparent that the time commitment to organize and package each publication was considerable and the utilization of the series varied widely. We needed a better and more efficient way of getting this content out to players.

Sort content by different categories

Boards Recap is the next iteration of a content aggregate that serves to mitigate inconsistencies and shortcomings with certain Boards features, such as a Red Tracker saturated with Help & Support posts, short-lasting front page visibility for many popular threads, and a harsh make-or-break user voting system. While these shortcomings in and of themselves may persist on the Boards for some time, we hope that this project will encourage higher quality posting and help players catch up on posts they may have missed while away from the Boards.

Because Boards Recap is in beta, there's still a lot we can and will work to improve upon. We'll continue to optimize all aspects of the project including the technical framework, graphics and layout, and content selection. We also want to hear what you have to say. What he it really means is that it requires mod access to do from behind the scenes; it's done in HTML, which anyone can learn, but you can't post on the boards normally in HTML.

I think optimistism should factor in. Not the deciding factor but like the honor system, being helpful and constructive should be encouraged.

I would love to add as many positive posts as possible! However, I think it's also important to not discount someone's feelings or thoughts simply because they're not positive, so we'll just need to find a healthy balance in there. Thanks for your feedback!

Only for the comics, lol. I get my news via other means. Just looks like they show the top 10 posts of your chosen category with a picture to match, instead of the top 50 with mouse-over descriptions. The commenting section appears to be palette-swapped and nothing more, maybe some bugfixes too. Overall I'm unimpressed; unless it's easier or made possible to add replay clips into posts or something, but nothing of what this update is capable of is described.

At least for me, making each piece of content feel unique is important, as (1) the rate of content that's added to this feed won't be as rapid as the rate of content added to the Boards and (2) it should serve as an incentive for solid posts. The rest of the feedback you've provided would require engineers to work on the Boards, and we don't have those resources at this time.

Granted, I don't like seeing 5 posts saying the same thing whenever the bashing bandwagon rolls around; however it's nice to compare and see who's actually done research to back up their claim too, as they're often more respectable and open-minded to discussion, as opposed to the whiners trying to farm upvotes for their ego. This looks like it removes that arbitrarily by only showing the most highly voted, which is and always has been flawed. As it's still commonplace to see a group of some other site mass upvote/downvote something regarding their topic. There's also crowds of fanboys that follow particular people, frequently upvoting them and blindly downvoting anyone who disagrees, which is a similar problem that's also been largely unaddressed; been seeing both of these issues happen for years.

Also side-note: Why these moderator posts have this special design but not normal Boards? I find the design appealing, would be nice to have it global. Or is it intendted to separate Board Posts from Board Threads? Or is it testing, because I see even comments having changed design.

If we could make improvements to the global design of the Boards, believe me, we would. As for now, they serve to distinguish certain posts from others, and why not make something look better if you could? If we do get the ability to make changes one day, we will bring the question to the Boards about what they'd like the design to look like.

I would personally like them separated into paragraphs based on whether they are Riot Posts, Moderator Let's Talks, Community Picked Up posts (such as Hatedaddy's rant) and finally Boards News, with headline similar ot the "Kick-ass Conversations" in the illustration image of WCR.

They're organized by date of posting, but you can view a specific category using the buttons at the top!

i still feel like the boards need more changes than that,the best section is useless for everyone who has visited the boards more than once,any post that does not reach hot is lost forever,going to hot should take in consideration views only and not upvotes. 1.something between hot and best=Hot. 2.something between hot and new=trending. 3. post with views above X goes to trending.

I've given this feedback as well. As an occasional Reddit user, I also love the "Rising" category, since it's a group of posts that changes each hour or so and leads to more posts being discovered and gaining traction. We don't have the devs for it at the current time, but I do share your sentiments and will push for it should the resources be made available.

I wish we had the ability to set keybinding sets to certain champions or builds its hard to change your key bindings to make the play better when you're trying to focus on the game I just find myself finding a universal set that I always use. [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]
