Boards Update: The Rant Board is now live!

ModAttysu The Poro·3/5/2019, 3:20:50 AM·34 votes·84,377 views

Hello everyone!

We have been taking in a lot of feedback for awhile now, specifically about low effort/rant-like posts being made in places like Player Behavior and (mostly) Gameplay, which hinders the Boards experience for a lot of users. We understand users get frustrated and need a place to vent about their frustrations to the game. Because of this, we have added a new sub-board to the Boards!

Introducing; the RANT board. (Which stands for Rambling At New Things not really thought it was clever though.) Have a frustration about the game? Want to scream your head off about Riot nerfing your main? Want to scream about how broken Yasuo is? Well, the rant board is the place for you! Please remember to read the Rant Board rules however before posting! We will also be redirecting a lot of spam/ranty posts from Gameplay to Rant now that we have this Board.

Is there a reason comments on other threads is disabled? Sometimes I wanna rant about other people's rants y'know?

Kaisha3/5/2019, 5:29:19 AM15 votes

What an utterly stupid idea. Ignore your player base even more, that'll win them over.

OneMustFall3/5/2019, 4:42:42 AM15 votes

So I like this idea as a whole however I do think you should allow Rants to be replied to so the poster doesn't feel like their thread is just getting moved into a black hole. Otherwise you might as well just delete the thread.

Just some feedback for you guys. Keep up the good work.

Now we wait for threads like "Why is my post in RANT"

AirKingNeo3/5/2019, 6:30:35 AM12 votes

This is terrible. At least allow commenting.

Just another way to turn a blind eye to the problems plaguing League of [Removed by Moderation]. I wonder how many threads will be "moved to the rant board" so that the gameplay board will be void of criticism.

This is absolutely terrible.

It sounds like a glorified trashcan created just so Riot knows what to ignore.

Not being able to reply makes it seem even more like a way to just silence criticism.

attysu (and the rest btw) with commenting/voting disabled this is completely pointless.. probably even for the worse, because it sets a feeling like "no one cares!" - which is quite off what forum means isn't it

i mean y okay if you really want to go with a "recycle and new trash" section but... atm, it will feel like both "shut up." which is not deserved by everyone really, nor would it help against any spam outside from it

and.. imo.. this isn't a good idea as a whole tbh.. like at all!

It seems like a good idea, but the execution seems a bit... awkward...

Being unable to comment, upvote/downvote, or show any means of interaction to a rant thread other than looking at it and maybe like... making a counter rant thread?...

There's barely any user interaction and is my gut feeling this board section will drop in user use quicker than 'Mechs vs Minions' did

Why not make it like GD V2 that we had to retire and just allow all said interaction there cuz they won't show up on the front page?

Let me guess... The upvotes are disabled and the downvotes are enabled?

Whose idea was this? I don't feel it was very necessary personally...

Feels like a place to move terrible Gameplay threads instead of locking/deleting them.

Maybe it makes less work for the mods to move a thread instead needing to deleting/lock it and write a message why, but being forcefully moved to the Rant board where no one cares to look or is even capable of replying to your post feels like a greater punishment than getting your post locked/deleted.

Finally, a place I can see what people like ranting about :)

LOVE this idea! Hopefully this clears some of the clutter

I do wish, like other people, that you could reply.

Sometimes it's nice to just hear someone else say "Yeah, Fiddlesticks is the absolutely worst designed champion in League and it's physically impossible to make one that has even worse design."

And allowing replies might result in less threads you have to delete because of people posting to gameplay. If they're posting to RANT and cannot get replies or a response, it feels basically the same as throwing it into a word doc and deleting it - effectively meaningless. Because of that, people are likely to put the threads in other boards just so they can have others actually respond to them.

Also, it's going to be hard to remember to report the 16th "DELET YASOU" thread as "incorrect board" rather than "Spam"

Thanks for all the feedback so far with the launch of the sub-board. Generally wanted to test and get some sentiment regarding how it works and testing auto-closing feature (we'll utilize this in some other way). We'll be turning on commenting in a bit but voting will probably remain off in there.

Madjack013/5/2019, 11:10:16 AM5 votes

Really, The Djinn should switch to the janitorial team for this!

Best rant ever.

On a serious note though: an important part of venting is the feeling that other people hear and understand (more or less) you. This is why disabling comments might be counterproductive as it expresses the notion that the rant will not really have any exposure to the community.

You probably did this because most comments on those threads are negative anyways and discussion is not to be had, but maybe subboard specific rules that state not to discuss rants but that still allow to join the rant with your own rant would be a feasible alternative?

For a forum the thought of forbidding discussion is a bit weird, but from an emotional point of view it's a strong sentiment when people join in ranting (at least in theory)
