Gameplay+ Missing Rule

Hi all,

So just spoke at length with a moderator and felt I should advise you all of an additional rule that wasn't mentioned in the guidelines. I'm doing this to aid people in having their posts approved NOT to start a discussion about Gameplay+ itself or those that moderate it! I want no hate here thanks.

The missing rule is: If the post is in regards to something riot did wrong, then it will not make it, even if they admitted they made a mistake

The reasoning for this is: It pivots the discussion from "let's talk about this" to "let's talk about how poorly Riot did."

This effectively means any post looking around the subject of "this is wrong, this is how we could fix is" is essentially saying "riot made a mistake, but this is how we can fix it" because every change is MADE by riot and therefore won't make it. It doesn't matter if it is a fact, or even admitted to by Riot, saying it in your post will break this rule.

Like I say, this isn't a hate post, but simply a rule that should be included and adhered to if you want your post to be acceptable.

Hope this helps those failing to get their post approved. I will be changing my post to adhere to this and a few other points later today and hopefully will get it through :)

Let me contribute some of the important extra statements that you were missing, and for some reason chose not to include. If you're going to quote me, please don't pick and choose quotes to fit a specific agenda.

  • "The board is also specifically NOT a board to hold Riot's feet to the fire, but rather to discuss gameplay and gameplay ideas."
  • "You can acknowledge your opinion that Riot was mistaken, but the level you went into to discuss it and make it a part of your thread is not appropriate."
  • "It is also not appropriate to suggest something [an opinion, in this case] is objective truth, nor is it appropriate to question the analytical skills of anyone at the company because that simply adds subtle personal attacks into a thread that's supposed to be about gameplay discussion. It's rude, unnecessary, and actively distracts from the topic you wish to discuss when you could simply state that you personally feel that Riot missed the mark, and proceed from there."
  • "And I've said that's [referring to saying Riot made a mistake] fine. The MANNER and TONE in which you did it, and how you made it a FOCUS of the second part of your post, is NOT."

And, importantly:

It is not a rule. It is the way you presented your argument. You can critique Riot's design, but your title and lines like this "So what have Riot had to say on the matter? Well, nothing. They have been actively avoiding the entire discussion, and it has not been for the want of trying on the communities part" or "Riot did all 3 because they didn't go to the root cause, only the initial problem" or this "but Riot just don't look deeply enough when making changes and that's caused no end of problems this season." where you assume they're not working properly or not bothering to do work are not okay for Gameplay+.

##In short, the primary factor here was not your opinion that Riot did something wrong, but the way that opinion was presented in your thread and brought into the discussion in ways that were not appropriate for Gameplay+.

Most threads so far are critizising Riots decisions and the current state of the game and suggesting changes. If we had the rule you mentioned: "If the post is in regards to something riot did wrong, then it will not make it" the gameplay+ section would be EMPTY with one exception: https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-plus/4fAwkfQA-non-standard-item-builds-yes-or-no which is the ONLY thread that does not criticize Riot and is more about player behaviour.

However it is also worth noting that the approval process is influenced a lot by the moderation teams interpretation of their own rules. What they consider a thoughtful analysis with use of facts and statistics is pretty much indefinable. There are already a bunch of topics with lack of research and lack of critical analysis. You are also allowed to use hyperboles if it's your opinion and if you don't even bother to justify it. https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/community-moderation/ByB8yWJk-my-thoughts-on-the-new-gameplay-board?comment=00000000000000010000000000000000 Sadly the mods are pretty much unwilling to explain their actions and defend themselves against critique in a responsible way.

I said it before and I say it again. These boards need objectivity to make a reasonable dialogue between RIot and the players possible again. Furthermore players have to think critically not just about Riot but also about their own ideas and opinions.

Most discussions die off because one side refuses to understand and acknowledge a different and more objective perspective. What is the reason for that? I can explain it with one word: EGO.

When it comes to discussing balance, this lack of objectivity is making productive discussion impossible. Balance requires a neutral perspective.

Gameplay+ fails at these crucial aspects, it further fails because there is a huge lack of transparency in the approval process and regarding moderator actions in general. Gamplay+ is a glorified version of Gameplay. Users are forced to be nicer. Votes are still enabled. Ignorant trolling is still possible as long as you don't offend anyone directly. There is absolutely no rule in place to ensure that Gameplay+ could be taken more seriously than the old Gameplay. The popularity of an opinion still matters way more than the actual reasoning, so circlejerking is very much still possible.

Also the mods don't want to hear this kind of feedback. They actually don't give a shit about objectivity and productive/reasonable discussions.

We didn't need Gameplay+ to declare Zoe and Yasuo to be "frustrating" champions, we've read about that 100 times before. Gameplay+ is just a mirror of Gameplay.
