Crazy idea: What if we changed our upvote/downvote system
inb4 mass downvotes.
Anyways, for those of you that actually decided to read the thread instead of downvote because you saw the title, thank you. For those of you that aren't reading this because you downvoted seeing the title, you are the problem.
The boards rely on and promote bandwagon appeal. This is a huge problem because any shreds of intelligent discussion presented is blocked out in favor of "fuck adc/bitching about whatever meta it is right now" threads. Sure, some slip through the cracks and make it to the front, but in general, the popular threads all follow a one track mind (In gameplay at least)
I have 2 proposed solutions for this 1: Give us Reddit's karma system. I know, a lot of you hate the sight of even seeing the word "Reddit", but I must admit that they're karma system isn't terrible. It promotes good discussions while downvotes are saved for off-topic/not useful replies. With a few tweaks, it could work really well for the League boards. 2: I forget which player mentioned this, so I'm sorry I can't give credit, but there was talk of downvotes being a sort of "self-flagging" system, with wardens there to sort through the flagged comments to prevent abuse cases. This gives wardens more to do than get bitched at for locking threads and allows actual discussion to take place, because anyone who uses downvotes to try to block out actually good threads because they disagree with them could just be punished.
The problem with both of these solutions is that it doesn't do much in the way of upvote farming. Someone posting "I fucking hate twitch" will still get 100 upvotes, but with these systems, more threads and viewpoints get to be shown in all.
