The header looks pretty ugly right now

It just looks bad. The black text on the navigation bar isn't central and the black box is far too dark. The header would look a lot nicer if you had a flat opacity (maybe a grey instead of flat black) over the whole star guardian image rather than ugly translucent black boxes.

Except it turns out you've just gone and put an ugly black box on the background itself. Below is the actual header image (which is hosted on imgur of all places!)
