[Ver 4.0.4] Minor Boards Performance & Feature Updates

ModWuks·1/14/2018, 11:35:27 PM·15 votes·4,120 views

It's been a while since we rolled out our 4.0.3 updates, so I wanted to follow up with you guys ahead of the Boards 4.0.4 planned updates. There's not a lot of new or exciting changes in this update, but we've got some stuff planned for the near future. I've included the set of updates, aggregated in bullet point form:

#Ver 4.0.4 Upcoming Changes (Expected)

  • Performance Updates
  • We've made some adjustments to improve the performance of our previous changes, so you may see threads render a tad bit faster
  • Voting Indicators
  • As shown below, I've adjusted vote colors to be more reflective of a gradient scale. Currently and prior, one vote could shift a thread from green to blue, or blue to red, and we felt that was a bit harsh to say the least. *https://i.imgur.com/sDNxEj2.png
  • "In Response To" Feature - Messaging indicates whether parent comment has been deleted (shown below)
  • The "Go to Parent" button on the bottom has been moved into the "In Response To" box as the "GO TO COMMENT" button for better clarity and flow

  • Localization
  • The changes were previously only localized for English; however, as we prepare to deploy these changes to the European Boards, we're making sure our messaging is consistent to the preferred language of each user. Localization isn't completely done, but it's on the list of things to complete, and certain parts of the changes have already been localized.

As of now, these changes will hopefully be rolled out on either Monday or Tuesday; but this may need to be pushed back for a number of reasons.

#Beyond V4.0.4/The Future

We're exploring solutions to improve user experience within Player Recruitment that includes changes to the rules as well as the platform, but I don't have too much to share beyond that.

We also have plans to create a space that is conducive for folks to ask and answer questions within the Boards. If you have any suggestions regarding this, feel free to send them our way!

Level restrictions per sub-board have been unclear and inconsistent, so we're going to be adding clearer messaging and notifications when a user doesn't meet the minimum level to vote, comment, or create a discussion; this will include listing the minimum levels in that sub-board, as well as instructions on how to sync your level.

Deploying changes to EU Boards & completion of localization of these updates.

With that being said, that concludes the updates. If you have any suggestions for any Boards-related features, feel free to drop a comment below!

We'll be looking to have the 4.0.5 release coincide with deployment on the European League of Legends Boards.

Oceania should see it on 4.0.4 sometime this week.

As per usual disclaimer, everything is tentative, and different factors may affect estimates.

4.0.4 is now live on the European English Boards and North American Boards. Due to some mitigating factors, we'll be rolling out completely to Oceania in our 4.0.5 version, rather than the expected 4.0.4 version.

It's a bit unnecessarily tedious to have to go from the GD version of this post to this one here to comment anything

Let me change the color back.

Edit: I'm talking about the color to the website. You made it into a weird light blue that sucks to look at and pretended that no one complained about it.

The easy solution is to make it like old GD ("recent" sorting only on the main topic page, and chronological only inside a thread).

This could have also been fixed years ago (I know I brought it up myself a couple times). This is also what partially killed dominion (they no longer had a board to call their own, with a sorting method adequate for a small population).

Hey, I have a little suggestion but I don't if it has to do with you.

Lately I've seen a lot of locked discussion because they are in the wrong board section. May it be possible for mods to, rather than locking a thread and potentially kill it, move a thread to the correct section?

Hi Wuks, could you give me an opinion on these ideas?

Add rune icons to the Boards

This is for the moderators,

Between the title and the body, where to insert links, once a publication is made it is not possible to edit it.

Can we be able to edit or delete this?

Like when someone has an image but it does not appear correctly, or mainly when someone leaves a fraudulent link of rp.

So you can delete the link without having to delete the entire post

One thing you forgot to fix: Showing the highlight on player's name to determine who's the OP of this thread.

Seriously, it can get really frustrating, especially on threads with like 1000 comments.
