Some ideas for board/community improvements
If I understand Wuks post right (Link to his post, glorious backround btw) this sub boards is focused on plans/discussions/ideas about the community and the boards, right?
If so, then let me get started:
-
On EUW boards a special feature is currently tested, it is about not showing votes on the threads on the Boards Home ONLY! (You can still see them if you are in the sub boards). And you need to open the thread to vote, you cant vote it on the fly. I have some additional features/changes, but I'll talk about that later.
-
make the top bar (atleast the part with your name and comments/notifications icons) fixed to the top of your screen, so you can spot comments/notifications faster and make it autorefresh itself every 5-10 mins. This should help to get better/faster communication going, so someone sees your comments faster, thus you can "communicate" better.
-
Make/pin a thread with the formatting commands for boards! And if possible, please, give us access to a "spoiler/hide" command! As a selfproclaimed theorycrafter my walls of text with ideas/improvements/analytics get out of hand pretty quickly! A spoiler/hide command, where someone clicks on it and it magically expands, swallowing the reader into an eternal vortex of math and explainations, that would be heaven :D And a better tool/way to make tables!

Regarding to lower overall toxidity a bit, I think that autofill, lets say, doesnt help with that...., rather the opposide. A not guarenteed "dont want this role" could help to exclude the least wanted roles. So even if you dont get your 1st&2nd choice you dont end up with your worst role... The "not guaranteed" is important here, I'm not trying to fool anybody here support will be choosen a lot... if there is no other option those guys will still get support. But if least liked role is any other, you should get it even less. Not a huge improvement, but there are no negativs(queue times should not be affected at all)
- **VERY IMPORTANT!** This "not guaranteed" part needs to be stated clearly from the get go, otherwise it will backfire! (Also a statistic if autofilled games are more toxic then nonautofilled games would be interesting) -
Showing the intended roles in Champselect so players can switch more easily (tiny icons next to the asinged role). If the system is not perfect players themself can fix minor mistakes (like mid main getting jungle and jungle main gets mid...). This also should help to smooth out the start off the game.

back to boards; if you want to discuss serveral ideas (like here) the comment section will get a mess quickly. Some form of organization would be nice, like assinging topics (I'll show you a "temporary" solution in the comments)
**EUW Boards special feature: ** You can check it out yourself, ether change the ".na." to ".euw."(".pbe." works too, but sadly you cant comment), OR Here OR if your originally from the euw just click the "boards" at the very top. It does look a bit plain, and we lose focal points to look at. For example a post with 50+ upvotes sparks your interest and you get drawn to it. Thats why you ether have <10 forever or 50+ votes in 1-2 days.... Our goal here is to spark interest but not bias the reader! If the reader then clicks on the thread the actual number will get shown and you can vote there giving the intention to actually read the thread...
We could use icons to spark interest without biasing the reader too much, and potentionally after 2-3 days it switches to the total vote count( to not flood everything with those icons) Icons could be: A "new" icon for new threads <12 hours/1day old. A neutral white " - " for post that have -4 to +4 votes. A green ▲ for 5+ upvotes and a red ▼ for -5 and less. This does not need to be fixed on the upvotes alone, alot of comments/views could be used as identification too.
What do you think? Is this sub board the right place for these kind of discussions/ideas?
