Dr. Viktor, or How I Yearned to Change the Atomic Hexcore

EDIT: I flagged as incorrect board -- I'm hoping someone can move this to the new Champions & Gameplay board.

Viktor is an interesting champion. His mechanics are seemingly powerful, but they turn out to be incredibly limiting in the long run. The irony is, of course, that his entire concept is one of unrivaled evolution and growth due to personal augmentation. I have come up with a fairly drastic rework that aims to make him the evolutionary master he set out to become.

The new upgrades will not take an item slot. Instead, they will be personalized buffs, similar to elixirs with unlimited duration. Viktor can, at any time, change his upgrade for 50% of the cost of buying the original upgrade (so 1000g for first upgrade, changing it to something else would cost 500g).

I am working on a "Phase 2" set of upgrades for an additional 1000g to augment his Chaos Storm. I'll edit this post later today to add those. The price structure will be: base -> Phase 1 = 1000g base -> Phase 2 = 2000g Phase 1 -> Phase 2 (same category) = 1000g Phase 1 -> Phase 2 (different category) = 1500g (500 swap fee, + 1000g upgrade) Phase 2 -> Phase 2 (different Category) = 1000g

New Passive: Hexcore item 3200

Viktor has augmented himself with unparalleled Hexcore technology. This ingenious marvel analyzes threat patterns and adapts to better defend and act against those threats.

  • Whenever Viktor takes physical damage from a champion or large monster, he gains 5 armor
  • Whenever Viktor takes magic damage from a champion or large monster, he gains 5 magic resist
  • Whenever Viktor deals physical damage to a champion or large monster, he gains 1 point of armor reduction
  • Whenever Viktor deals magic or true damage to a champion or large monster, he gains 1 point of magic resistance reduction
  • These bonuses have an atomic half-life (rounded up) of 2 seconds when out-of-combat for 5 seconds or more (e.g. viktor has 30 bonus armor. He is out-of-combat for 5 seconds. 2 seconds later he goes down to 15 bonus. After two more he drops to 7, then 3, then 1, then 0. If he re-enters combat at any point, he stops losing points and can wait 5 more seconds out-of-combat before he starts losing them again)

New Upgrade: Hexcore Upgrade: Death item 3198

Viktor modifies the learning algorithms of his Hexcore to focus more on optimizing methods of eliminating targets before they can pose a threat to vital systems.

  • Viktor no longer gains magic resistance or armor from his Hexcore
  • Death Ray deals an additional 30% damage as True Damage over 3 seconds, ticking once every 0.5 seconds
  • Champions, large minions, and large monsters killed with Death Ray grant Viktor a Stack of Doom
  • Every Stack of Doom adds 0.1 seconds to the duration of his Death Ray's damage-over-time debuff (every 5 stacks adds a tick of damage)

New Upgrade: Hexcore Upgrade: Gravity item 3197

Viktor modifies the learning algorithms of his Hexcore to be pro-active instead of re-active to environmental stimuli. Specifically, he inputs relativistic formulas intended to better enable him to suppress obstacles before they are a threat.

  • Viktor no longer gains any armor, resistance, armor reduction, or resistance reduction from his Hexcore.
  • Viktor gains 10% cooldown reduction
  • Increases the cast range, slow effect, duration, and stun-speed by a third (range 812.5, duration 5.2 sec, stuns after 1 second, up to 57% slow)
  • When a target is stunned by Gravity Field, it is pulled to the center of the trap
  • Every target stunned by Gravity Field returns mana to Viktor. Champions and large creatures restore 30 mana, while small minions and monsters return 15 mana.

New Upgrade: Hexcore Upgrade: Power item 3196

Viktor modifies his Hexcore to focus almost exclusively on defensive algorithms. This enables greatly increased survivability at the cost of offensive capability. Offensive power capacitors are re-purposed for defensive applications.

  • Viktor's Hexcore no longer gives armor reduction or magic resistance reduction
  • Power Transfer shield duration is increased to 3 seconds and the strength is increased by 30%
  • Power Transfer shields Viktor as soon as it is cast instead of on return
  • As long as the Power Transfer shield is active, Viktor's movement speed is increased by 30%
  • When Power Transfer returns to Viktor, it heals him for an amount of life equal to the power remaining on his shields (so any damage done to the shield reduces healing)
  • If the shield is broken by a melee attack, backup capacitors discharge and knock the attacker 200 units directly away from Viktor. It takes the backup capacitors 45 seconds to recharge (45 second static cooldown)

New Phase 2 Upgrade: Death Storm item 3198

Viktor alters his Chaos Storm device to be a far more effective instrument of destruction

  • Chaos Storm reduces the magic resistance of targets under it by 10/15/20%
  • Chaos Storm's damage-over-time portion deals 1% increased damage for every Stack of Doom

New Phase 2 Upgrade: Gravity Storm item 3197

Viktor alters his Chaos Storm device to effectively suppress any threats it discovers

  • Enemies inside of Chaos Storm gain stacks of Gravity Crush every half-second that last for 3 seconds (max 6 stacks)
  • Each stack of Gravity Crush reduces move speed by (6/8/10)%
  • Enemies with 6 stacks of Gravity Crush are stunned for (1/1.5/2) seconds (additional stacks will not re-stun)

New Phase 2 Upgrade: Power Storm item 3196

Viktor alters his Chaos Storm device to bolster his team's defenses by draining his enemies offenses

  • Enemies inside of Chaos Storm gain stacks of Power Drain every half-second. Each stack lasts 5 seconds (max 10 stacks)
  • Each stack of Power Drain on an enemy reduces their damage by (3/4/5)%
  • Whenever an enemy gains a stack of Power Drain, the closest ally to that enemy gains a shield equal to (10/15/20) points of life for 5 seconds. New shields refresh the duration and add to the total shield value

Too complicated. Viktor already has a fairly heavy burden of knowledge compared to other champions, this would be an encyclopedia.

Try explaining those mechanic's into tooltips that are readable in game, you can't.

Right now Viktor falls short because he's a strange mixture of abilities and lacks mobility.

He has Poke with E, Short range trades with Q, AoE CC with W and AoE Burst/Consistent damage on R.

Really, he doesn't burst as well as burst mages, doesn't poke as well as poke mages, doesn't "bruiser" it up like short range tank mages, or provide the utility of support mages.

He tries to do all of them, but is mediocre at all of them. (Does Burst the best with Bruiser being second)

Viktor is underplayed because of a stigma against him and his natural difficulty. In reality he's fine up until the upper levels of play, where he fails because of his immobility more than anything else.

TRINKET HEXCORES. That is all.

Very interesting, the Ugrade:Power might need a slightly longer cooldown, and the Upgrade: Death definitely needs less AP/kill. 1 ap per kill, if any. Think about Veigar, his Q is on a bit of a shorter cooldown than Viktors laser, but it's single target and only grants 1 ap. Viktor can clear waves with his E, so you can literally get 20-30 ap every ~10 seconds. Permanently. That's a bit overboard, and I don't think that making it be halved at death would inprove it much, because that augment is the worst for surviving, as it removes the armor and mr gained. Very interesting overall, I don't think you should be able to change it though. It should be turned into a trinket for these changes. Nice concept, I hope if they haven't gotten too far with Viktors kit re-work they take this into consideration. But you certainly have "Paved the way"

I think this is pretty awesome. Very well thought out, fellow mad scientist. FOR SCIENCE AND MADNESS.

Here's What Solcrushed wanted to do about 2 years ago. Seems pretty similar, but I think you and Solcrushed (the guy who was originally re-working Viktor's augment 2 years ago) are both on the right track!

The yellow hexcore gives too much. Not only do you get an instant shield you get a longer and more powerful shield that also heals you and knocks back melee champs that are attacking you. If the heal was less than the entire shield it would work but basically you get a ton of hp and disengage from this one skill. It needs to have either less healing or lose the knockback.

Nice job on gravity though I feel like it could make support viktor a good idea! Ori mid and Viktor support for insane pull action.

On the red item maybe only have the ap boost while you have the upgrade because during laning phase you can buy it and use it to get free AP and then sell it for something like yellow to make you harder to catch in teamfights. Your items are trying to make people choose between utility, offense, and defense. Thats why all the items are quite good but if you just get free AP permantly than everyone would use the red one during the laning phase and then sell it later.

You are fooling yourself and show your limited understanding of how things work by saying this game has nothing to do with religion.

Good thoughts, very interesting ideas. would like to see Vik played more often, a fun champ.

What if it's an 'evolution system' like Kha'Zix? Where at each level of Viktor's ult, a new addition to the Hex Core opens up to be bought, each with different stats so you can customize what you build of Viktor. Will he be a tanky utility mage? Will he deal tons of damage? The choice is up to you!

I want to play Viktor so that I can figure out just what it is you are talking about, but +1 for the title alone.

I'd recommend putting the stats in a Sheet or something along those lines so that the numbers are more legible. Could help with context, as well.

I added a first-pass of phase 2 upgrades. I'm not sure I'm happy with them, though. Open to suggestions!
