Blitzcrank Rework: Less One Trick Robo-Pony, More Hard Hitting Pickbot.

Ladies and gentlemen, it has come time to talk about everyone's first League of Legends nightmare. At some point in everyone's League career, they faced the devastating power of Blitzcrank, and they died. Repeatedly. More than they thought possible in so short a span of time. Mr Krabs warned you to not play with them hooks spongebob. Then, as we learned to play, we realized that poor Blitz is just a sad, binary 'bot with one trick and an all-or-nothing playstyle that averages out to be quite lackluster.

So what can be done? I propose a rework that keeps with the core design of Blitz (picking out a single target, bringing them to him, and unleashing a barrage of cc and damage) while removing the aspects that are more feast/famine (max range grabs from brush that cost half your mana pool), or boring blobs of stats (current Overdrive), or just plain irritating (Dat ult passive). My hope is to create a champ who would be playable as either a tanky support or a pick off oriented bruiser/duelist.

Blitzcrank Blitzcrank, The Great Steam Golem

(starting with his basic moves so his passive makes more sense in context)

Q: Rocket Grab

Range reduced to 600 Mana cost reduced to 60 Cool down reduced by 5 seconds at all ranks

All other effects unchanged. Rocket Grab is the defining, high impact moment of Blitz's kit, and reducing the power of that does reduce the possibility of those insanely lucky game winning max range grabs, but the idea here is to make RG less all-or-nothing and more an integral part of a more cohesive and ultimately more potent all around kit. Read on for the more interesting changes.

W: Overdrive

Removed Attack Speed boost

New Utility: Rolling Golem. Overdrive's speed boost doubles in value over 1 seconds while Blitzcrank is traveling in a straight line. If he turns or is forced to turn by a minion or wall, the speed boost resets to the base value, and will stay there for .5 seconds before Blitz begins accelerating again.

Blitzcrank's engage just got a whole lot scarier. Rolling Golem allows Blitz to speed in and speed out, and rewards a player who can pick out a good angle for that engage to come in and adds to the fun factor of Blitz's aggression in lane-Barreling out of the brush at maximum speed before delivering a rocket grab engage to the face just got a whole lot more oomph. Beware minions though. Personally I jungle New Blitz with Ravenous Hydra and Phantom Dancer so it's not a problem for me but Tankcrank's going to want to plan around them.

E: Power Fist

Unchanged except for

New: Boom Boom. Blitzcrank follows up his Uppercut Punch with a devastating one-two body blow. The next two basic attacks hit at max attack speed.

Blitzcrank's new Bread and Butter combat skill. With his engages and grabs becoming more reliable to land, if more risky, Blitz is gonna want to be prepared for combat more frequently, and he needs a way to make sure those trades he forces are in his favor before he scoots on out to prepare for another hit and run. This is where the attack speed previously on Overdrive comes in, condensed down into a brief burst of power, heightened even more by Blitz's shiny new passive:

New Passive: Round Two

Removed: passive shield

Added: When Blitzcrank is reduced below 25% HP, he is cleansed of all debuffs, and the cool downs on Rocket Grab and Power Fist are immediately reset.

Ding Ding! You know what's not fun? Extra safety on an already super safe champ. You know what is fun? Passives that allow for high risk high reward plays and more rocket grabbing power fisting action. And finally, let's take a look at

R: Static Field

Removed: RNGsus last hitting passive

Added new utility: Time to d-d-d-duel! Static Field silence duration increased to 1s if only 2 or 1 enemy champs are caught in the AOE. Additionally Static Field does not interrupt the acceleration of Overdrive.

The final piece is fairly self explanatory-This ability can be used to deal the fate of one enemy chased by Blitz so they can't use mobility to avoid the rocket grab. In order to be less of an AOE cc nuke, it only works if just a couple enemy champs are caught

So what do you think? In general I think a kit like this would give Blitz more of a hit and burst rather than a land skillshot or die playstyle. More mana efficiency, fewer oppressive cooldowns, and a unique niche among tanky supports would breathe new life into a somewhat dusty robot.

I don't know about 5 seconds removed from his grab combined with the lowered mana cost. Early game against Blitz went from risky to fight to almost guaranteed frustration. At level 5, barring CD runes/masteries, that's a 13 second grab from 100 units beyond current Lucian poke range(just so people like me who don't know what range units mean visually have an idea of the distance) for only 60 mana. Very spammy and even more dangerous than before in the hands of a good Blitzer.

Other than that I would say you've got an excellent base for a rework...so long as you Blitzcrank remain focused.

Pretty interesting ideas. Sorta makes me afraid that he'd become a gimmick-assassin though. His W ramp up time seems kinda useless in lane though, where you wont have much space to get the speed rolling.
