Defeat upon Enemy Surrender?

So, the last game I played our team was winning, so the enemy team decided to surrender, 4 votes to 0. So, as tradition goes with fun games, we surrendered after for the double Nexus explosion. What we got was the defeat screen. Not sure if this is intentional, but I want to know why the other team wins if you surrender after they do. Technically, they surrendered first, so wouldn't that mean you won?

surrendering after the enemy tends to overwrite their surrender i don't know what it's about

Yeah, we learned that the hard way in a ranked game.

This used to be a thing, then it wasn't. I guess it's back.

The way I see it, it's like two people trying to be polite.

  • One person opens the door and says, "After you." [Team 1 surrenders]
  • The other person stops short and waves the other ahead, replying, "No, you first. I insist!" [Team 2 surrenders and take the loss]

It could also be like a mercy feature. A team is getting stomped really badly because they're completely outclassed, so they forfeit. The other team knows the game was completely unfair and gives the other team the win.
