Spell Hitboxes - Inaccurate Visuals

I was playing vs a Ziggs yesterday and had a very good plan on how to win the 1v1. I would have except I died to his ult while standing outside of the red circle. Is anyone experiencing this with other mages as well? Seems very unfair to me. Why make a visual hitbox if it's not accurate?

I get it with lux all the time

It happens on everything and some times it's on the other way like Cho'gath Q hitbox being smaller than the animation.
