Anivia AOE slow thing makes maokai sapling shorter range?

so I am not 100% sure but today i was throwing a maokai sapling at an anivia but it didn't go anwhere close to the range i was pointing at instead if fell right next to me. is this intended?. i was inside her AOE slow. idk the name of the abiility. the snow thingy
