Whats wrong with minions?

I just played a custom with a friend. We both stayed mid the for most of the game and by the end of the game, Top and Bot on the red side had taken the blue side tier 2 turrets, and at one point I even left mid to clear the massive wave that had built up in the top lane to try to stop the bleeding. Blue side hadn't even taken the first towers. My question is... WHY DID THIS HAPPEN?!?! When top and bot are left alone to where there is 0 champion interference, the lanes should be equal, but this clearly is not the case. WTF RITO?!?!

It's not a bug though, I would like to say for sure.

I cannot really back up my claim though since I can't remember where the post(s) is / are that explains minion behavior when there is no champion interference.

Edit: From what I do remember though, there will always be a random winner no matter what side the minions are on, because of path finding but for them to actually win and close down a game themselves takes a very long time. Red does tend to win more though.
