Server Time Out == Series Loss

So, I'm in Champion Select for game 1 of a division promo series. The server times out between Blue 1st and 2nd and purple 2nd and 3rd (I'm purple 2nd). When it finally catches up to me, I've been kicked from the game due to "Failure to Select a Champion." Thus, when I lost the next game, it gave me "You have failed to complete your series." I'm sick and tired of Riot's technical issues robbing me of my ranking. Is there any way to prevent this error, or am I just stuck playing hit-and-miss with Ranked games?
