Guardian Rune Bug?

So I was playing as Zed, and I was just running out of fountain when Kennen threw a shuriken at me. I took no damage because (DEAD) Thresh was under me. He had the Guardian Rune and because I took damage near him, I gained a shield. I'm not sure if this is intentional by Riot or if this is a bug so just in case I'll put this post up.

Nowhere does it say it doesn't work when dead. So I guess it's intended.
