Gangplank's Q och Illaoi's tentacles

I played as Gangplank versus Illaoi, and when I used my Q on her tentacles, nothing happened. He didn't shoot at it, the mana just disappeared and it instantly went on cooldown. I don't think Parrrley normally would work on her tentacles, but you can still ''use¨'' the ability on them without anything happening
