Champ Select no chat visibility?

I've always had technical issues with the champion select chat since i started playing this game. But just now i went into a game and had no idea what roles were left because the chat displayed nothing that i posted or that of anyone else, luckily i had a friend tell me what role was left, but what the hell just happened? Is Champ select not showing any text at all a known bug?
