I went 6 and 4 in my promos and was placed in silver4. You're not placed based on wins/losses. You're placed on relative performance. Did you win against gold elo players? Awesome. Did you lose to bronze players? Not so awesome. It's not just about how many wins you have. after a 3 or 4 win streak in my promos, I got absolutely destroyed in lane. Like 0/7 by 20 minutes. I thought I was playing safe, and tried playing even more safely after each death. But the dives just got more and more aggressive and I was useless. That guy had to be many many divisions above me, and I dont think that loss impacted my result too much because I'm expected to lose when they're rated much higher, but I have no way to confirm that.
I don't have an answer about it resetting or not next season. I have no idea.
At the end of the season, I believe your initial MMR becomes (1200 + EndOfSeasonMMR)/2.
I ended my provisional games 6-4 and get into Silver 3. It's all about where your MMR ends up at the end of them, so it will vary depending on the opponents you face and the order of your wins and losses.
You can go 10-0 and wind up in Bronze 3...you can go 3-7 and wind up in Silver 3...your elo going in isn't flat...it's set based upon your normals and what not that you've played the entire time you raised your character from level 1 to level 30. You won't know where you actually are until you finish your ten games.
The seasons don't reset...it's a "soft" reset. If you're silver...your first game next season isn't going to be against Voyboy and Doublelift. If you were Silver 2 the season before...and you go into the next season and go 5-5...you're going to be put into mid silver. Now...every season people tend to be a little lower than they were...because on the reset you have to remember the highest anyone can be is PLAT 1. No Diamond, Master, or Challenger...so the numbers are slightly skewed. Also remember that normal games and ranked games in the offseason are still affecting your elo. If you screw around from December to February and go 0-30 because you were experimenting...guess what...it's going to show up when you get to your games to decide your ranking.
There's no reason to stop your games because you're 2-3. That does nothing for you what so ever...if you're afraid you're going to be in Bronze...well...sucks but you're not legitimately going to know until you finish. I've played since late Season 1. I didn't even bother playing a ranked game ever until the last week of the season last year. I'm an old fart who might have time to play a game or two a week...so I figure maybe it wasn't for me...my stuff was always casual with friends and I naturally assumed I wasn't very good. I had a few days off...said screw it and ran 7 games one day, 3 the next. I went 3-7 and got placed in Silver. You're not going to know until you finish...and again...your initial win/loss is irrelevant. If you go 1-9...against plat...you're not going to be placed in bronze. It is all relative to how you do vs the rankings and capabilities of your opponents.
