Gonna start playing Ranked soon (Any Tips?)

I'm a level 30 who usually plays jungle and top, but have only played normals because I wanted to be good enough before I enter the much more competitive and unforgiving Ranked mode. My goal is that I'm able to at least pull my own weight in whatever Rank I am placed in (Bronze, Silver, Gold, etc.)

I know that I need to learn each role and have at least some knowledge in each of them. That way, if I'm unable to play my main roles I won't totally screw my team over by feeding.

So can anyone gives me some tips before I enter the wonderful world of Ranked?

Find champions you like the feel of in Normals, then play them and consult LoLKing, leagueofgraphs, and other sites or streams until you know those champs and feel comfortable with them.

Also, try to master champs who don't have high ban rates. It's not worth mastering Katarina or Sejuani if they're banned 7-8 out of every 10 games. Master the basic champions as well, like Garen or Nasus, as fallbacks to your main role.

Get standard rune and mastery pages set up as well. And play with both a stable internet connection and a stable mindset. If you feel angry enough to imagine violently killing the next person in real life who might insult you, take a moment to chill. Losing a lot of games? Feel like it isn't worth it to see a losing game through or enter queue? Take a breather, plan out how to spend the rest of the day and maybe the one after that without playing Ranked, or even LoL at all.

Know your win conditions and get comfortable on champs. Also focus on getting better each game instead of winning and it will keep you calmer.

You can get away w/ 3 or 4 of the five roles honestly. I main mid and top, and I occasionally end up supporting and very rarely end up jungle. I've deleted my ADC rune page, bc I'd rather dodge the 1 in 100 games where I have to play it bc team won't than try and get good enough to carry at something I play 1 time in 100 games.

In all seriousness though, finding a couple champs you like playing and just focusing on getting better each game is the best advice I can give. I got crushed earlier today bc I play heimer and like to take a jungle camp at level 1, lee sin invaded and killed me and I was a level down against an early game champ w/ no turrets. It hurt bad, but I can guarantee you I won't forget to ward river (usually do and was just being lazy/not thinking that game) for a long time bc that was a huge mistake on my part. If you learn something every game and ACTUALLY DO IT RIGHT next time, you'll do ridiculously well. I know I only do stuff right the next time about half the time and I got way better.

  1. Only play if your head is in it and you body is healthy.
  2. Get comfortable and make sure everything is as you need it.
  3. Stay calm through out the game.
  4. There is a mute button, don't get angry you are going to loss.
  5. Stay positive.

I am sure there are a ton of pointers on counter picking, rune set ups ect. But long story short, stay cool and enjoy the game for what it is.

I would suggest adhering to the 40-20-40 rule.

40 out of 100 games, you are going to win. This is an eventuality, because the enemy team just gives up after you're 11-0. These games are usually surrenders right out at twenty to twenty five minutes. Now that other 40 out of 100 games, you are the surrendering team. That leaves the 20 out of 100 games that are brutal, one hour long games that are totally possible to win.

Keep this idea in mind, because when you lose, you're more likely to win the next the next one simply based on the system of MMR.
