Wanting to main Akali
I have recently bought Akali and have been enjoying her! i was wondering how i could build her more optimally then the recommended build as well i was wondering if buying energy rune for her would be worth?

get armor instead of scaling hp yellows since your melee (and it's cheap), flat ap blues is fine, although mr is better for newbie akalis.
nope, not at all. mpen reds, scaling health yellows, scaling ap blues, ap quints.
I haven't played Akali very much yet since I picked her up pretty recently too, but I seriously can't think of a single time I ever wasn't able to use an ability because I was too low on energy. The same runes I use for most other AP champs (mostly AP/MP/cooldown) have been working pretty well for me.

I respect your decision of maining Akali, but she is banned 90% of the time in low ELO solo Queue. There's very little opportunity to play her.
I've played her a couple of times, I hope my tips can help you:
a. Build:
> / (Zhonyas if you need additional defense, Dcap is you're snowballing hard) > > or > >

b. Akali counters no direct escape mages like Lux, Karthus, Orianna (more of a skill matchup, though).
c. Akali struggles against burst mages/champions like Annie.
d. Play safe pre-6, go ALL IN IT post-6.
e. Your shroud can grant vision (well that's "useful"!)
f. It is really easy to delete ADCs as Akali. My combo: Q>R>E
Don't buy energy runes pls. You should buy AP/MS Quints, Mpen reds, Flat armor/flat hp yellows, MR/ scaling mr blues.
I would hold back on making akali your main. The current nerfs are really gonna give you a problem if you choose to.
