Any idea on how I can up my Riven game to climb easier?

Alright, I know for a damn well fact that Riven is too strong for her own good. Can someone please give me tips for how to whip out my reins and ride this hopping and flipping demon straight to Plat V? I would love for a nice and well explained guide such as abilities, items, runes, masteries, and just over all tips to help your good ol' buddy Gasaa become a better top laner and overall, a better player. Something that could take your RIven play to the next level would be to recognize when split pushing is a better option then grouping and vice versa. It is really tough to call sometimes especially if you take ignite. If you can still get solo kills without ignite consistently switch to TP. If you switch to TP you can start a jungle camp with dorans blade then back for 5 pots and TP in lane with a level 2 advantage. GL.

Played Riven once, and sucked miserably.

That said... -Practice using her abilities fully, e.g. animation cancel and wall hops. Get the hang of it and it'll improve your gameplay. -Be a team player even though you're Riven. Do not be that asshole who stays top and wastes his level advantage. -In general, as you climb, you'll have to manage your cooldowns more effectively, as any good player will know how to take advantage of you when you're helpless.

No tips on items and whatnot, since I never play her :c

She's not too strong, that's just people complaining because she's a bit of a pub stomper.

Only way to get better at Riven is practice and experience. She's got a lot of really tough and miserable matchups and you have to know them inside and out, exactly how to build her down to differences in your rune page and skill level order.
