New Player Looking for Advice

Hello, I believe that I am currently level 14 and I'm having a great time playing League of Legends. I played Master Yi for about a week, then Jax for about two weeks, and now I just started playing Akali. Right before Jax, I played Karthus for a little bit, but my kill:death ratio fluctuated a lot with him in comparison to the first three I played.

Anyways, I'm looking to unlock a few more champions that seem interesting: Katarina Kassadin Mordekaiser Malzahar Cassiopeia Riven Yasuo Zed Syndra

I have four questions.

Out of the above champions, which of these would you recommend I try out given my current experience and champion selection?

At what point is it appropriate for me to play a PvP game? I've yet to PvP at all for two reasons. One is that I don't have enough champions unlocked for one mode. The other is that I've waited in Blind Pick's queue for five minutes without getting a match.

What PvP mode is most popular for low-ranked individuals? Is a five minute wait time normal or am I missing something?

Finally, I've been told that watching youtube videos of your champion in action is a great way to learn. How do I tell what rank the person I'm watching is? Is there a trustworthy compendium of these videos or is it just a matter of searching youtube for a description that relates the player's rank?

Anyway, thank you for your time and patience with a newbie.

PVP matches at low levels are really Lvl30 Bronze/Silver smurfs but give it a go

Katarina and Riven are both pretty easy to play. Yasuo is awesome and mostly easy except for his windwall. Zed is a high skill champ so I don't recommend him but he is OP. I don't really know about the other champs.

  1. zed I think, but that's a guess
  2. play when you feel ready. one thing you can do is wait until 20 to get tier 3 runes so it's easier.
  3. not sure, but it shouldn't be taking 5 minutes, unless the system is having a hard time matching you with people about your normal mmr.
  4. you can look up there in game name on lolking. there is will show their rank and a few other things.

I would say to go with katarina. She's really good for starters and helped me learn the game back when i was a total noob. Katarina taught me you have to have patience before diving in. Instead of just trying to take down the opponents health i had to poke him to the right amount before doing it. And she's kind of OP.

Seconis,

I actually wouldn't spend IP on champs until you've played them in the free week rotation and like them. Especially considering that when you hit 20 runes become an IP black hole. (level 3 runes are EXPENSIVE)

If you're concerned about PVP, maybe try ARAM, then. Its a lot of fun, and most people recognize it as just a gimmick game, and no one -should- be flaming in an ARAM. You're welcome to play pvp at your level on rift or 3's, however, and I do recommend you do if you want to. There's a lot of meta to learn, and bots just isn't sufficient to learn more than basic mechanics or do build tests.

If you're looking to lookup a champion, you can do that one of two ways. If they're on the same server as you (meaning NA, versus like China or EUW, etc,) you can do a champion name search at the bottom of your friends list. If they're on a different server you can use op.gg for that server to find them.

If you have further questions, add me in game. I'm usually on in the evenings.

Given your current experience and where you're at, here's my personal opinion on your choices: Katarina - faceroll, go for it. Kassadin - don't do it Mordekaiser - no, he's not exactly very viable right now Malzahar - Sure, provided you know when to pick him Cassiopeia - scales well into the late-game, but also in a pretty bad place vs other apcs you could choose. Riven - should be an easy transition from jax and yi, as long as you can figure out how to juggle her Q CD Yasuo - Strong choice in both mid and top, give it a go if you like assassins. Zed - highly skill oriented, very easy to be bad at zed. Wouldn't recommend using him until you've gained some more experience with less complex kits. Syndra - highly skillshotty, based entirely around skill combos and very mana hungry in lane. wouldn't recommend her for your experience level.

I'd recommend saving your IP until 20 as best as you can, T3 runes are as mentioned, an IP black hole. To fill one rune page is about 10k-15k IP, I don't even want to know how much IP I spent to get all of them. To avoid spending all your IP, wait until they're free, play them a few times and see if you like their kits and if they suit your play style. Remember, being comfortable with your champ choice is more important than anything.

To ensure you get the champ and position you want, consider playing Team Builder.
