Top lane suggestions

I'm curious what would be some good top lane champions to try out! I've been primarily playing jungle / adc / karma support so I'm looking for a nice change in scenery so to speak.

I hear Gnar is doing pretty good top lane these days.

I, myself, have always been a fan of the big, meaty tanks. Renekton and Nasus. Maybe play Kennen to mix things up a bit.

Top lane is still kind of it's own island though, you can pretty much bring whatever works for you in a solo lane and it can do well during the game.

pretty much every champion can go top people just go bruisers n stuff top most often cuz they have no place in bot and mid lmao

Susan. Susan is the greatest ally a team can have from up there, in my mind. Can splitpush, can tank, can deal some reasonable AOE in teamfights with his ult, while simultaneously being unkillable... it's pretty crazy, if you can CS well-- and he makes that easier, too!

I really like playing AP tanks top lane, though Nasus is fun, and if I'm just derping about for fun, I play Olaf every now and then. He can be really scary if your team doesn't throw and feed everyone on the enemy team.

Top lane is fun. I can agree with Agent2090 that Gnar is doing pretty good, but the one downfall to Gnar is the Maokai. For some reason Maokai can burst him down with his full combo, and this happens by the time he gets his Catalyst. Nasus is pretty fun to use, because you can build Nasus to be the Tank that gained his power through Q-stacks, or be an AP Tank that just did the Q-stacks as a side note. Just remember that bruisers who can soak up damage late game can go up top because mid lane requires some sort of wave clear (though AD Malzahar is potent just because his voidlings can wreck), or really any champ who isn't too squishy or requires time to dish out damage; anyone who has a burst combo or has some sort of ability that can turn the tide of a team fight (Shen's taunt, Ryze's... everything, Udyr's stun, Nautilus' Ultimate, etc). Just any sort of CC works! Some champions who have natural sustain (Aatrox's W passive, Nasus/Warwick[though don't use WW, as they might change every ability he has] lifesteal], or Akali's spell vamp[AD Akali will permit almost 100% spell vamp], etc).

Just keep those few things in mind as you venture up top!

All fighters and tanks can go top. The least expensive top laners that cost little IP are Jax, Nasus, Kayle, Trundle, Pantheon, etc...

Darius is a strong pick up top but he doesn't really have an escape but he makes up for that by being able to 1v2 quite easily especially when he has his ult up.

Believe it or not AD Leona top is really good. It's pretty much like playing Irelia top but with more hard CC.

Speaking of Irelia, Irelia is good top as well but you have to be aware of when to use your E as it will either Stun or Slow.

Alistar top is pretty much played like Leona top if you can play her top.

Jayce is a well rounded pick for top as he can farm safely but when he goes in he can really punish his opponent.

Kayle top is still pretty strong and I recommend her because she's fairly easy to play and she stopped being banned so much.

I have had fun with Wukong and Irelia, Irelia especially has seen a very large amount of play in very high ranks/elo. I'm unranked, though, so you can probably just take my opinion for a grain of salt.

You've got to find your own groove. A competent player with an unpopular character is better than a player who doesn't know what they're doing with an "OP" champ.

Even though Fizz is primarily mid, he can go top pretty well too.
