Hecarim - Is this Viable ?

Hello everybody, wanted to hear your thoughts on a slightly different way on building Hecarim top lane. Normally people go for item 3078 into item 3110 and item 3065 and finish it off with something like a item 3143 and/or item 3075 rounding it up with some nice item 3111 .

Since I think that this build might be very tanky in late game , i must say that it makes me said to see that Hecarims damage output drops off so hard.

So I set down and came up with something rather unseen on Hecarim:

Rushing item 3071 and item 3111 into a item 3025, item 3143 , item 3065 and item 3156.

On paper it looks quite good to me: 40% CDR, way more AD, some tankyness and the pony profits quite a bit from the item 3071 passive.

So my Questions are:

What are the negatives ? Why isn't this build ?

I wanted to hear the oppinion of some more expirienced players before I dare and try this out in my Bronze (god blees) ranked games.

English isn't my mother tongue so please forgive ^^

Good luck on the fields of justice,

DaRealMrKanister

if this is the wrong board or something please let me know, i am quite new here and any kind of contructive critism is apprechiated.

Alright, Hecarim top is my favorite champ/lane combo, I find him extremely fun and rewarding.

Now the main goal of Hecarim is to obliterate the back lines of enemy teams, with his Homeguard E Teleport, and Ult + ignite this is fairly easy to do. However, once these abilities are expended or if you run straight up the middle of the enemy team, you are gonna get kited and killed, as well as make yourself look like a fool.

While your build may look strong on paper, it isn't realistically viable in a team-fighting sense, which is where Hecarim excels. Here is why, when i play Hecarim I rush my homeguard Ninja Tabi/Merc treads, while running tp ignite. Then i go into Tri-force, when you complete Tri-force you are effectively the strongest person on the map with your tier 3 boots, assuming you finished them on schedule and are not 0/5 or something. As soon as you finish Tri-force your damage spikes, you can 1v1 almost any top laner, and you can obliterate immobile adcs/apc/supports.

After this point is when Hecarim begins to fall off, your damage is highest when you have tp up and are able to flank the enemy team. However tp isn't up all that often and you won't always have the perfect flank. In order to deal with this issue you have to build tank in order to keep your squishes alive while trying to disrupt or even kill the opposing carries. Your build does provide more damage, but at the cost of tanky stats, it would allow you to have a stronger 1v1 but at the cost of teamfighting since you can be kited so easily without your ult. Additionally tanky top laners are in meta right now, since Hecarim relies so heavily on gold to be effective that build would not be viable in the jungle and he would just get chewed up with it in team-fights.

I think your build would be effective on top laners that have more blinks/dashes or on champs that aren't as easily kited.

  1. Hope this helped, have a good day and good luck in your endeavors.
