Tips & Tricks for players buying their first 16 champs...

Dear boards,

What should a player be looking for and/or be trying to do when buying their first 16 champions? Right now my thoughts ( as a returning but now re-learning player ) are to try and find one A.D. and one A.P. champ for each role. My problem is I don't think it is the most efficient way and was hoping for some help in figuring out what my goal for this should be. Any advice you ( the reader ) think will be helpful is appreciated.

Best regards, Ephennett.

Find 2 or 3 champs that you are good at that you want to play/main. Unlock those.

Then go down the list starting from the cheapest and unlock all the 450s and any 1350s needed to fill the quota. I suggest you prioritize champions that can be played as support for the 1350s.

Save the rest of your IP for runes needed for your mains. You will need them.

This is the fastest way to reasonably get into ranked without being a liability to your team.

For proper use: Play support if both of your mains are banned (choosing at least one main that is not frequently banned usually fixes this problem). If both of your mains are banned/taken and support is taken, dodge.

If you haven't already, you can get Tristana, Garen, and Alistar for free by following/subscribing/liking them on various social media sites (facebook, youtube, twitter). They'll send you a code that you can use to redeem the champion and a skin.

My advice is just to play champions on free rotation and get the ones you like and either play well or are willing to practice so you can play them well. I have a lot of champions that I bought blindly because I thought it was a good idea, but I found out I didn't really like playing them, so now I never play them, and it was just wasted IP

Play champs on free rotation (on bots, don't play PVP until you know their abilities). Once you do play them on PVP, and enjoy them, build up IP to unlock them. Being efficient isn't as important as finding champs you like and play well as. At least, in my opinion.

I'd actually reccomend getting characters who are good at multiple different roles (annie/naut being pretty fun ones). Then you can experiment with different roles with little cost.

If below level 30, save all your IP for a bit and spam free weeks to find your favorite champs and styles. Common recommendation is 2-3 champs in off roles and 3-5 in main.

Personally I think this is an error unless you are a fairly strong player willing to commit time to throughly learning so many champs. I played a lot of champs up to gold but most were messing around in bronze 3 where I put in focus on a few champs I enjoyed enough to really learn and improve at and I climbed at a moderately fast pace.

Personally I would suggest finding 3 champs that are not often pick ban status and can cover 4 roles at least. You don't need to play all the roles, just support and 3 others. This does two things that are important, first, you can learn 3-6 champs well and that is enough to get to gold or at least high silver (I can beat any counter with heimer up to around silver 2 where I start going even, basically just by knowing his match ups and how to adjust). Second, you can focus on things you enjoy so you are willing to put more effort into learning them. It had been so many games since I played adc I had riot delete them from my account so I can't get mystery skins for them. I just tell people I can play anything except adc and we can run kill lane hot with bruisers if no one else can adc.

Personally I ran heimer top/mid Nunu jungle and Annie/Morg support for at least 90% of my serious climbing. Therefore my suggestion would be find something you love that can play two roles (like top/mid, mid/support, top/jungle, adc/mid or top, jungle/support) and learn it inside and out. This lets you spend as much IP as you want on two or three champs to get really good with, and the. fill in other needs with low IP champs.

Hope that was useful.
