There's a lot to learn to know everything about every champion in League.

Let's help get new summoners started by sharing a tip or two about your favorite champion (or one of your favorites, if you have a hard time making up your mind like I do) that everyone should know.

It can be a tip for playing as or against them.

Rumble - When Rumble overheats he gets bonus magic damage on all of his attacks, but this bonus damage doesn't apply to turrets.

Veigar Most people focus on Veigar's 100-0 wtfburst potential. Pros rarely discuss Veigar, but when they do, they talk more about his stun than his ult. This is wisdom.

Veigar Veigar gains +1 AP (value ~22g) from last-hitting a small minion or monster with Q. This approximately doubles the value of a lane minion. For dinky monsters like wraiths (i.e. chickens), this means that Veigar gains about 26g total from them, while other Champions gain only about 4g. Be nice to Veigar.

Veigar Lore bonus: Veigar is an adorable fuzzball who was locked away in solitary by Noxians. He was deprived of snuggles until he snapped and became a dark mage. This may be the best Champion backstory in League of Legends.

Singed Unless you absolutely know you can kill Singed without a problem, don't chase him.

Garen - You should stop Garen's spin early if you are no longer dealing damage with it. Stopping it early puts it on cooldown, meaning it will be off cooldown sooner than if you spun for the full duration.

Tip for playing with Braum - His passive is a stun. If you see part of a ram's head on an enemy champ that Braum is trying to AA, f***ing focus it.

Katarina Katarina gains 15% damage reduction for 1.5 seconds when she uses her Shunpo. You can take advantage of this against global ultimates like Karthus. If you have good reflexes, you can also reduce the damage taken by a direct nuke, DoT or any projectile. Katarina can also shunpo to any target aside from turrets. She can even jump to J4's banner, but only if he is an ally.

Lastly: Katarina's ultimate will light up if there is an enemy in range (and you've learned the skill) even if you cannot see them. You can use this as an early warning system when face-checking brushes or if a stealthed enemy is near you. (Khazix Twitch Shaco Teemo )

When playing Thresh, taking Flay first gives you some really nasty autoattack damage early on. You can do significant damage along with your ADC to anybody unfortunate enough to walk too close. Harass harass harass!

wukong isn't my favorite but i like him MonkeyKing wukong's clones do not show jungle buffs. if wukong stops moving and still has buffs, it's the real wukong. if the buffs go away, the monkey probably split

Malzahar Malzahar's Voidlings share his Attack Damage values, so a lot of his hidden power comes from directing his minions' autoattacks with Malefic Visions!

Caitlyn Her traps are among the best skills in the game. Drop one whenever an enemy uses Zhonya's, GA, Zil ult... Drop one whenever an enemy gets stunned, rooted, snared or charmed to extend the CC duration. Drop one on your allied blitz, or right behind your singed, volibear etc. Drop one anytime the enemy TF ults in, or when the top laner TPs for a surprise gank but OOOPS! YOU STUCK ON A CUPCAKE BROTHA! Drop them everywhere!!! Drop one into a bush for vision. Drop them at the edges of bushes for complete bush control. Drop several in key locations to force the enemies into a specific attack path.

About her R. In most situations, it should be used anytime you have a clear shot at a squishy. This is less true when they have a lot of sustain or heal, but only slightly less true.

Zed When playing Zed, look for a spinning shrunken above a Death Marked enemies head, meaning your death mark will kill the enemy.

Edit: Spelling derp. Not shrunken, shuriken.

Nami time Ebb and Flow scales quadraticaly with AP. Normaly, for each bounce the heal/damage weakens by 15%, but this weakening effect is lowered with AP. When she hits 200 AP, she no longer loses value with the bounces, and she will actually start to gain more value, appart from the normal AP ratio (0.5 damage & 0.35 heal). It effectivly gains a double scaling for the second bouce and a triple for the third one. Tidecaller's Blessing damage is based on her target Magic penetracion, and Nami own AP. Tidal Wave immediatly triggers Nami's passive on herself no matter what direccions she throws it. Allies that come in contact with it afterwards also gain it Karma time Inner fire dies off if it does not hit a target, but Soulflare always blows up. Soulflare has a larger AoE than Inner Fire, as both the inicial and delayed parts of damage deal it at a bigger area. Combining those 2 facts, you get that Soulflare has longer range than Inner Fire (roughtly +125) and can be used to snipe Both focused resolve and Renewal deal damage a total of 3 times (0.66 delay between each tick). This means it triggers her passive three times, lowering Mantra's cd by a whooping 6 seconds. If you are planning a snare-Soulflare combo feel free to go once Mantra cd is at 6 Renewals heals Karma once at the start and once the snare yes, but if her target dies before the snare trigers she gets the heal anyways.
Defiance haste, damage & shield AoE is about 75-100 units bigger than the indicator actually shows Because it does nothing on its own, Mantra can be cast while under any form of CC, even silence and supression Vladimir Sanguine pool cd starts at the moment Vlad casts it, not when it ends. At max rank with 40% cdr ( not actually dat hard on Vlad if you go Ionian boots) and combined with Zhonya's active it only has a downtime of 3.5 seconds. You can also cast summoner spells while pooled, such as flash or ignite

High Lord Blaze10/14/2014, 11:43:47 PM22 votes

JarvanIV You can press R to make the walls of your ult collapse (useful when you're chasing/under turrets)

Lord Neptune10/15/2014, 11:18:24 PM21 votes

the most important tip I can give is if u click on thresh's lanterns Thresh after he throws it u will travel to him

Ulric Greatsword10/14/2014, 11:27:05 PM20 votes

Gangplank Oranges have a cast time, so always make sure you can survive long enough to finish eating them. Also, he laughs when he ults.

lostbob11710/14/2014, 11:59:18 PM19 votes

Ezreal - Can flash while charging his ult.

Earl Eulrich10/14/2014, 11:13:08 PM19 votes

Nautis Shield (W) also resets his AutoAttack (cause that is what shields do cough), always make sure you get one hit through before you activate it to make optimal use of it.

Startyger10/14/2014, 11:18:42 PM19 votes

Shaco Shaco - Using R:Hallucinate doesn't break stealth. Try stealthing into a group and using you're ult before attacking. With luck, you're foes will drop their cooldowns on the clone before you come out of stealth, greatly reducing their combat effectiveness in the fight. Don't worry about losing the crit from your Q either as there is a small window after your stealth drops for your attack to crit.

Eleshakai10/15/2014, 1:01:22 AM19 votes

Nami has a passive. Most people don't seem to realize this.

Millea10/14/2014, 11:13:31 PM18 votes

Lux Lux's ultimate procs her passive and applies a new instance, so be extra wary of it in addition to her autoattacks when you have her passive on you.

U Just Got Slain10/15/2014, 1:23:23 AM17 votes

Zyra Zyra's Stranglethorns increases the attack speed of her plants located inside the ability by 50%. This increase in damage is VERY significant and should not be underestimated. Zyra's plants should be avoided or taken out safely, it's not worth taking hits from her plants when she is relatively safe.

Velkoz Once reaching level 6 Vel'koz has a 500 base damage ult that procs his pasive at least once, most likely twice if combined with at least one other spell. Vel'koz CAN and WILL 100-0 most champions at level 6 if you let him. Play very careful and save cc for when he ults. It's better to interrupt him than to just turn and run. If you have no other choice but to run, don't run in a straight vertical line, run to the side as fast as you can.

Selaphane10/15/2014, 12:03:50 AM17 votes

Champions that wear glasses take exactly one less damage from Leona ult.

Gixia10/15/2014, 12:05:13 AM16 votes

Contrary to popular belief, regardless of the fact that Shyvana builds primarily AD, the vast majority of her damage is actually magic. This is because Burnout (W) is her single largest source of damage, and her E adds a fair bit of magic damage to each auto-attack as well. This means that building armor is actually not especially helpful when trying to defend against her, but it also means that magic pen/MR shred is deceptively powerful on her. Never underestimate the strength of item 3091 in her claws.

Turrant10/15/2014, 12:18:41 AM16 votes

Trundle

Many people know that Trundle's Pillar of Ice has a small knockup when placed directly underneath a champion but when done while a champion is mid leap such as a Jax Q or Lee Sin Q2 it will interrupt the leap and prevent the damage. I find interrupting Jax's leap relatively easy because it has a shorter range making it more telegraphed and is a slower jump. I get pretty psyched when I save someone from Lee Sin with the pillar because that's a lot more difficult since I play on 90 ping.

Trundle's pillar can also be used to physically pin someone to a wall if you do it just right where it does not displace them significantly and you get the right angle. It is really easy to avoid having this happen to you. It can only be done when you are hugging the wall really close. I tend to get a lot of WTFs in chat from this one.

Zanryu10/15/2014, 3:06:40 AM15 votes

Hecarim When Hecarim smite monsters, minions or pets during his W he heals himself due to its healing nature.

Hecarim When Hecarim starts to use his amplified auto-attack with his E (when you jump on the enemy) nothing can stop him. With it he can travel through snares, stuns and so on. However the CC is still applied.

Fizz Jungle Fizz can use Playful over wall->Smite->Trickster back over everything that let him pass in the first place. This is very useful for Dragon/Baron steals.

Sion item 3022 Frozen Mallet is an almost must-have item on the new Sion. The slow works with his innate. This results in an unstoppable killing machine with a slow on his fists.

Kuroi8610/15/2014, 1:29:33 AM15 votes

Chogath Most people talk about how hard it is to harass with Q, this is a major mistake to make in lane. Your main form of harass, CS and general screw you to your lane opponent needs to be your vorpal spikes. The range can help you harass most opponents simply by positioning when you go to nab a CS.

Another good tip is never to let your feast go to waste. If you don't think you can execute an opponent in the next minute, don't bother holding onto it, just eat a minion for the stack and health. It's also a very good tool for forcing carries out of fights. Landing your feast can scare them and force them to burn their escape and place themselves out of range to properly help their team.

FantasySniper10/14/2014, 11:46:35 PM14 votes

Jinx Pow-Pow > Fishbones for DPS.

This is a huge misconception that people have when playing Jinx. The AS boost of Pow-Pow makes anything past your first attack has more total DPS over Fishbones. Fishbones, as a rule of thumb, should only be used when out of range for Pow-Pow or when you need the AoE more than you do killing a single target. The slower AA animation of Fishbones also makes kiting harder than using Pow-Pow, especially with how it lacks an AS steroid.

Sammystorm10/15/2014, 5:55:05 AM13 votes

Anivia's Q can break spell shields and banshee's veil and still stun people if you let the projectile pass through someone and then reactivate it once it it behind them. It also deals double damage this way. It deals damage for hitting someone and then again for when it explodes.

Aurora Celeste10/15/2014, 1:01:59 AM12 votes

When Gangplank ults with a phage/triforce, you still get the movement speed proc just from your cannonballs. Really helps Gangplank follow up on an engage in a fight.

Dai Tou Zai10/14/2014, 11:33:08 PM11 votes

For Cassiopeia don't use your mouse to activate ability.

The Red Warden10/14/2014, 11:45:02 PM11 votes

With Galio you should wait till your W is active before casting your abilities since the increase in MR it gives you also boosts your ap because his passive.

With Hecarim practice the timing of his q and e dash since if timed right the movement speed increase of his e can allow one of his Qs to do almost double damage. When both are combined it ends up being a surprisingly high amount of burst

Desmond Law10/14/2014, 11:49:08 PM10 votes

Viktor Viktor's hextechnology was used to revive Urgot. But officially, the man responsible was Professor Stanwick Piddily, the man who stole Viktor's original cyborg technology.

But if you want gameplay, then I guess: His Q does not proc on structures, allowing you go keep your cool purple auto attack blast animations until it times out.

Anomander10/14/2014, 11:38:50 PM9 votes

Leona has a auto attack rest on her q and can kill a stealth ward lvl 1 solo

12tales10/14/2014, 11:28:21 PM9 votes

Evelynn Her W does a lot more than you think. In addition to the speed boost, it cleanses slows on activation, passively gives you movespeed whenever you attack an enemy, and resets on kills or assists. Rather than W right off the bat when ganking, wait for the enemy to slow you for maximum efficiency. In teamfights and skirmishes, prioritize the lowest health targets to get as many Ws off as you can - you'll be motoring around like full AP Lulu after a kill or two.

If done right then Zac Zac can actually jump into the purple team's base on The Crystal Scar map via his E, Elastic Slingshot, and not get damaged by the turrets either as well while doing so. This does require that Zac have at least three (3) points into his E ability first though since by then he will have enough range to actually just jump into the purple team's base from the outside wall and actually stay there without getting damaged by the turrets there either as well.

Of course there are some other champions that can do it too such as Lissandra Lissandra for example there but Zac Zac is definitely and by far the easiest one to do it with there out of all of the champions that are in the game right now currently as well though, so there's that at least.

P.S. And before you ask, yes, this does only work with the purple team's base and not the blue team's base so keep that in mind when trying to do this trick as him on there as well please, so there's that at least.
