Cho'Gath Strategy

So I had a mild epiphany the other day. I decided to play Cho'Gath Chogath in top lane versus a Karthus Karthus. Knowing that I didn't want to hit all of his Lay Waste bombs for every minion I would try to last hit, I opted for my first item to be Ancient Coin item 3301. This way, I figured, even if Karthus can zone me with his abilities (I know Cho can zone enemies very well too, but I can't as easily prevent him from farming with Lay Waste), I will still get some gold from the item's passive and I would get the health bonus on top of Cho'Gath's normal passive. So when I do last hit I get my passive, when I don't I get the item's passive. I was rarely ever below 75% HP with this setup. I used it again versus a Ryze Ryze and even though he could burst me pretty low, I would quickly come back to full HP after a few waves of being careful not to take any hits. Meanwhile I was able to pop a few shots off on him. My first game I ended up going 20/4/11 and the second one I went 4/0/8. I'm pretty happy with both. Thought I would share this idea, maybe it's been said and done already, but this I only recently picked up Cho'Gath after quite a long time of not playing him and I haven't looked into anyone else's builds for him. Enjoy, hope it works well for you guys too.

So, in your opinion, what are the advantages of starting with item 3301 compared to item 2041 or item 1054?

Considering you have to be in range of ~182 minion deaths where you didn't kill the minion to get the money back from gold generation, and that the coin provides a pretty small amount of sustain to anyone trying to last hit minions, in what situations would you consider it worthwhile?

Against either I'd go null magic mantle and five health pots. Put a few points in vorpal spikes early before maxing feral scream, should give you strong wave clear as well as good harass.
