I tried explaining this to someone before. But the reason you have to stick to a handful of champions in SR (let's say 7) and, imo, this takes a lot of the fun away, is because you're anticipating carrying for afk'ers trolls, and actual players who don't know what they're doing.
I'd like to say its a game of strategy, but in truth it's a game of tactics. The difference between wins and losses, morale boosts and demoralization occurs not in the overarching 50 minute game, but in the seconds worth of jukes, landed skill shots, and kills/near escapes. That's where Bronze games are won.
So having said that, if you're not 100% familiar with the plays your champ can make, how it counters moves from other champs, or if theres a second delay in using an ability because you're not incredibly familiar, thats what costs a game. Do I want to play the same 5 champs constantly? No. But it feels better to win, so if I want a new champ I go to TB. Because of this I suggested making an ARSR so that actual ingenuity is on display, but the idea was shot down by the forums.
My only other piece of advice is that you should really focus on the roles people hate. Again, this isn't what I want to do, but it's what I have to do. This game doesn't need more top or mid laners. Have the champs in case, but don't focus those lanes. Jungles and ADCs seem in demand. Hop in the TB and focus only champs with your play style. Play them until you hate them, then go destroy people.
tl;dr:
Tips for winning 4v5's and neutralizing trolls
- Play only 5 champs unless you're forced to do something else. Forced.
- Focus on roles that routinely go unwanted. Jungle, ADC, Support.
- Just play. Talking gets everyone in trouble. Typing should be resigned to things like "group 5 mid" or "dragon"
- Towers. The answer is always towers. The first team to super minions usualy wins because Super minions don't chase, they focus towers, and they're basically a 6th player.
- For the love of god - call your lane. No, it doesn't matter how obvious the choice is. Yes, it does make a difference. And it takes 5 seconds. Take your hand out of the Dorito's bag long enough to type "supp." If you type "bot" you're part of the problem. Same with chasing, whining, feeding trolls, being in the jungle and not at a tower, convincing people to surrender.
You can't win every game. But the losses are easier when you win more than you lose.
