Question about Thresh's lantern

So occasionally I will get in situations where I am caught alone by two or more enemy champions that have me surrounded. An ally thresh will throw a lantern to me, but due to the number and proximity of enemy champions I cannot click on the lantern without clicking on an enemy sprite, causing me to attack an enemy rather than surf a lantern to safety. Is there a key I can press to ignore enemy champions and click the lantern?

Edit: I have referenced "target self" "target enemy" and "target ally" a number of times in replies. I was incorrect, there is no "target enemy" or "target ally". There are however "target champion only" and "self cast" keys. This is where my confusion came from. Thank all of you for replying and helping me to understand the finer points of lantern mechanics.

Not to my knowledge. I think learning where to throw lanterns is actually kind of a skill that Thresh players need to develop as they play more games with him.

If the enemy champ is close enough that you are clicking to attack them rather than clicking the lantern, then it is likely that they are close enough to counter the lantern -- If an enemy champs stands upon the lantern - hitboxes overlapping - then the lantern cannot be used by an ally for movement purposes.
