Starting Void Staff instead of Morellonomicon

So since Athene's cost was increased, morellonomicon has been the better choice item because cost. I loved the mana regen on Athene's but morellonomicon doesnt have near as good mana regen, so I was wondering if going void staff would be more efficient since it is slightly less gold has 10 less ap than morellonomicon, but has 35% magic pen. And to simple it down can Void Staff be viable to morellonomicon as it would maybe give more damage with the % magic pen, since i dont like the mana regen on morellonomicon.

there is little reason not to get athenes, regen, cd and mr are great stats to have on a mage, and if you go for RoA(tear) you will never run out of mana

At about ten minutes into the game, 35% magic penetration results in about ten to fifteen flat penetration. You could get that amount of penetration from a Haunting Guise, or Sorc Boots.

There's a little saying that I've heard float around, and I've used it on most champions with moderate success.

1st item utility, 2nd item burst, 3rd item penetration

The problem with rushing VS is that %Mpen is pretty bad early game. If your champ can work well with Liandry's, that will give you more early game damage.
