Hi I'm trying to get back into my old role of mid lane and seeing the recent rising popularity of Veigar, I was wondering what tips anyone might have to play against him. Not looking for any particular champions specifically, just some tips and techniques to deal with him. Also, would it be a good idea to shove the waves in early so he can't be able to properly stack his Q since the towers will be vaporizing the minions?
First, dodge Veigar's E as much as possible. His W relies on it, and he usually can't position safely for Q without it. Failing that, get Mercury Tread's and the Tenacity mastery which will give you enough tenacity to walk out of his W's landing area until his stun is ~level 3, and flash/dash/jump out of it at any time except level 5 stun.
Second, call your jungler. Veigar is supremely immobile, and does not have the damage to kill 2 people when ganked or the safety to survive most ganks. His E is powerful, but if he pushes even a bit a jungler can come from the enemy jungle side and gank for a free kill or flash. Even if the wave is pushed to his turret he can max W and farm, which leaves him with free farm.
Third, if all else fails get a Banshee's Veil. Veigar CANNOT kill you at that point until very late game: any spell of his you block will ruin his combo (without E he can't land W, without Q he lost a lot of damage and has low kill potential, and without W/R he lost most of his damage).
Shove early, punish when he misses stun.
Other than that laning is easy, he's slow and immobile and has a hard time in 1v1's early. Pick someone like Annie and you can abuse him early~mid
Barring that pick Zed/Talon or another AD laner as it will drastically lower his R's damage output and Zed is also mobile enough to dodge all 3 of his skillshots, can even dodge his ult.
Shoving's what I do. If you can take his tower and then freeze the lane he's stuck in his unhappy place. Mostly, however, just trying to exploit his mana pool and waveclear options.
No offense if you cant lane against veigar you got problems mechanically hes awful in lane after rework don't get me wrong at 45 minutes hes still a small god but in lane I think he is easiest champ in game to beat by far early

Nasus is the one with the stacking Q when he kills anything. Veigar has to kill champions to stack, an even then it's his ability power not his Q.
They will almost always lead with their E to combo you with W, so as obvious as this sounds, be aware and do your best to avoid the snare and life will be a lot easier. Not to mention his lack of range
Harass him, force him out lane, don't let him farm.
Um, what i like to do when i play veigar is to just to kill one minion with my q its mana consuming but its easier to get your stacks. Also have flash on F, not D, F
