Talk me into playing Trundle?

Maybe it's just that tanky junglers are getting popular, or just that I remember having fun with him in the few bot games I played while he was on free week. Either way I kind of feel like buying him.

Any tips or guids or anything?

Also, is the SSoTP still a thing?

He can click two buttons (one is from item 3153 ) and take a huge chunk of health from a 7k hp raidboss tank while also stealing their resistances. He can stop Sion ulti with his pillar.

He is about as counter as you can legit get vs tank heavy teams, and since....for some reason...people are running like double tank right now (to each their own) he takes over team fights. He also pushes a lot better than a lot of people realize (As far as split pushing, or straight up bruting down towers). I am nothing but opinionated about his laning phase, so I can't give any real feedback there that someone else might disagree with.

If you play top, or even jungle, I think he is a good counter to where the meta is starting to shift. Never hurts to have a head start. I can't say where you want to put him as far as top or jungle, mostly because I'm not a fan of his laning phase, as his pre-6 can be troublesome if you aren't used to him+ certain lane opponents playing as him, but post-6, he shuts tanks down.

He does work well in the jungle I feel, but don't pick him every game (unless you are good with him). Try to use him as the anit-tank counter, and you will succeed even by accident in fights vs tanks. Works well in ganks too vs the likes of Leona and Braum, just have to keep all that in mind pre-game/champ select.

One tip I have is, so long as you have some lifesteal (Preferably Bork) don't give up on life in a fight even if you're down to like 5% health. Trundle is really good at winning down to the wire fights. This doesn't mean you should just mindlessly chase people with the intent to just whack at them till they fall down, but if you're fighting one on one with someone or you have your team backing you up, you'll be making the enemy shouting at their screens "Why won't he die?!"

As for items, I've usually only ever gotten Bork and then went full tank with the tank items depending on the situation.

Trundle is deceptively strong the apex of invisible power

AD steroid Movespeed steroid Self heal bonus steroid Heal steroids Armor steroids Magic Resist steroids

he also has a slow debuff

SSoTP was always more of a gag, but really, don't get him nerfed please.

Trundle's meta-game revolves around self steroids and stat stealing+debuffing. He thrives most when his opponent (ideally a tank or another AD bruiser) gets a lead or is strong in the current meta. He is a ton of fun to play, regardless of whether you are an old school player who wants the rotting troll back or you prefer the current Ice-ogre rendition, his kit is still pretty much the same as it always has been. He is still a troll who beats you to death with a giant club like he's swinging a little switch around, and that is just really enjoyable.

You can either go super tanky unkillable Trundle, or you can play as a melee duelist/carry. Trundle does best with:

  • Any sheen item (item 3025 or item 3078 depending on the situation, but always get one or the other every game).
  • A lot of lifesteal (item 3153 and item 3074 are both excellent, just choose for the situation, or get both).
  • A lot of Resistances to make his self sustain more impactful
  • item 3065 This item is your go-to defensive item, since it gives you a lot of what you want, like regain, HP, MR, and a self healing buff that stacks with W.
  • item 3284 Trundle is a move speed based champion, so getting Swifties is a great choice in the jungle (but as always, buy according to the match) Furor and Alacrity are both great for helping you stick to fleeing enemies as well.

Even if playing really defensively, always get at least an Iceborn gauntlet and one of those two lifesteal items (BT isn't that good though, the damage is only a little better but has no AoE or AS for faster tower killing)

Focus on catching out individual enemies with your pillar and then clubbing them to death. In team fights, focus on peeling carries and blocking enemy pursuit or escape with you pillar. Splitting up the enemy team is also a very effective way to win a fight. In lane, try to be aggressive and rely on your Passive to sustain any counter harass. Your standard harass pattern is AA-Q-AA. If your lane opponent leaves at any point, take their tower. Literally just take it as soon as they are gone, you melt towers in seconds because of your AD and AS steroids. Bar hypercarries like Master Yi and Tryndamere, Trundle is the fastest tower killer in the game.

ever since the AOE slow nerf that completely gutted singed slow/trundle slow. Its been really hard to play trundle. I'd suggest just learning someone with a more updated kit. Like nautalis or sejuani. Someone with knock ups/snares.

Riot really fucked trundle with the AOE slow change awhile back. If he's not top lane he's just really hard to make work as well as he used to.

Basically to describe the nerf... Before the change (nerf) when an enemy walked off a slow that was AOE on the ground they would still be slowed for the duration of the slow (every slow thats aoe in the game was refreshed every .75 seconds and lasted around 2 seconds after leaving the AOE)

Ok so for this change what they did was made it so the moment you left the AOE you immediately stopped being slowed. This was an absolute gutting to champions who's only real cc was an AOE slow. Champions like trundle and singed really got fucked hard by this because of how reliant they were on their aoe slow.

Now with the buff of Frozen Domain (W) to 20% increased heals from all source **at all levels **its a no brainer to pick him as a jungler instead of a laner. I've been playing him for 4 years now (its sad) and I've never been able to come out a 2x full jungle sweep with all of my health in tact. He can live and out level the enemy jungler. I usually build:

item 1039 item 2003 item 2003 to start him off. He's mana hungry, if you ever do play him. I start off smiting gromp, go to blue, use a pot WHILE ON FROZEN DOMAIN to increase gain around 4 additional health points per second. I'll be full health by then, go to wolves, wraiths (pop a pot), then red. I'm usually never afraid of it getting stolen, but have an ally ward it if you are. Get golems if you want the extra gold, but you'll usually never need it.

Optional side quest: Gank bot/top after blue buff since no one usually wards so early.

Go back to buy:

item 3706 item 1001 item 2043 item 2044 item 2044 And gank until blue buff comes up. If you're confident enough to invade, now is the time for deep enemy jungle warding and pink dragon warding.

This here is a must on your next buy: item 3709

unless you need armor asap, i.e. heavy Yasuo Pantheon in addition to the adc and top laner get: item 3751--->item 3068

Even though I'm a jungler, I'm trundle, I have nearly nor realiable gap closers, but I do have a slows and a non-reliable knockup. I buy: item 3044 and work my way to a item 3078 before OR after i get my tier 2 boots. Because you'll have more than enough movement speed (MOVEMENT SPEED QUINTS IS A MUST) @ around 475 with frozen domain.

So a mid-late game build will be around

item 3709 item 3078 item 3111

people say item 3153 is a must, but item 3078 deals more damage. Period. If you're ahead or on track get item 3078. Otherwise, go for defensive items such as item 3082 ---->item 3143. Health items are always better on trundle then other defenses since he'll steal armor and mr.

Depending on the team comp and how far behind / ahead I am, I'll then get about my item 3153 if I'm not the only melee champion. If I'm the only melee champion or only tanky melee champion, I forget about all other damage and focus on keeping my team alive.

item 3709 item 3078 item 3111 item 3153 item 3022 item 3143

AP Heavy: item 3065

Trundle is a great champion. I've never seen anyone play trundle in months ahaha. He's definitely a fun champion (I also enjoyed playing him when he was a free champion)

I actually enjoy playing trundle jungle, there are a couple of different ways to play him in the jungle.

The Tanky way

As it states you build him like you would in the top lane go all out tank and be that hard to kill mean machine that is annoying and hard to kill while getting the regen from your Frozen Domain, lowering the ad of champs with chomp and tank busting with your ulti.

Whack A Troll

This is my fav way to play him.

Go for devour enchantment, build tri force and blade of broken King, by the time you max your Frozen Domain you will have attack speed of around 1.7-2.0, as the game goes on you can reach attack speeds of around 2.3-2.4 at level 18 on your Frozen Domain. Now here is what i love the most about it, drop Frozen Domain in front of a tower and use your chomp when it is up, you will wreck a tower solo from 100%-0 in less than 8 seconds (the time your Frozen Domain lasts). You can get beserkers greaves and or other attack speed items to get to 2.5 attack speed sooner but i suggest going a bit tankier with the rest of your items as you will still be able to clear camps in seconds.
