Doran's Shield - Clarification Request on Certain Interactions

Doran's Shield was changed so that it would block 8 damage from single target spells. I know how this works for general single-target spells, but I was curious about it's interaction with certain abilities. If anyone knows about certain interactions and wants to chime in, it would be appreciated.

How does the damage block work on single-target damage-over-time effects such as Swain's Q and E, Malzahar's E, or Udyr's Q?
Does the shield block 8 damage from Jax's W and R passive in addition to the 8 damage blocked from the autoattack? (Laned against Jax before posting this and I was curious)
Does the shield block 8 damage from Kayle's E-enhanced autoattacks on the primary target? That is, blocking 8 damage from the on-hit magic damage in addition to the autoattack itself.
Does each ball used in Syndra's ultimate count as an individual single-target spell for the purposes of damage blocking? I remember that it behaved like this with Muramana in the past.
Does it reduce the damage of Karthus' Q if you are the only unit hit by it? Does it reduce the damage of Karthus' Q if it hits multiple targets?
Does it reduce on-hit damage from champion abilities (Miss Fortune W, Kog'maw W, Nami E)?
Does it block damage 5 times for Warwick's ultimate, twice for Shyvana Q, or 2/3 times for Renekton W? (This wouldn't be affected by the change, so did it before?)
How does it block damage for abilities which detonate a mark on a target (Akali Q, Leblanc Q)? Does it block 8 damage once on application and once on detonation?

There are roughly 4 different "ways" damage can be dealt.

Basic Attack / On Hit. This is any basic attack, things like Mystic Shot, Double Up, etc. These are really common of course, and interact with Doran's Shield. Note that most of these abilities are rolled INTO the basic attack and thus are only counted once total, as though you had simply attacked your target. You'll typically not see Doran's double-dip an ability like this.

Single Target Spell -> This is anything that deals damage in one chunk to one single target. A spell like this receives full power from Spell Vamp and Rylai's. Some older champions do this in more ways than you'd expect, like the second half of Akali Q is actually a Single Target Spell. This stuff will be affected by Doran's Shield, as it says in the tooltip of the item.

Damage Over Time -> Swain Q, Swain E, Brand Passive. This will trigger full Spell Vamp and reduced effect from Rylai's. Will not be affected by Doran's Shield.

Area of Effect -> Whether it's a damage over time effect or not, if it hits multiple targets at the same time (Malzahar W, Morgana W, Brand W, LeBlanc W, Kayle's E), it's usually this. These will trigger the reduced versions of Rylai's and Spell Vamp, and will not be affected by Doran's Shield.

Proc -> This is stuff that doesn't apply anything. Sunfire Cape is an example of this. The bonus damage on Shyvana's E, Kog W, MF W, Nami E are others. Unaffected by Doran's.

Warwick ult and Shyvana Q are multiple basic attacks, so each would be reduced by Doran's.

Syndra's R is actually multiple single target spells, so each is reduced.

Unfortunately, there's just a lot of "this is how the ability was coded." Jax is an old champion, and his W and R are both "Single target spells" even though they probably should be "proc" abilities. There's no good way to intuitively know this, and other similar abilities don't work this way.

I believe Karthus Q becomes a "single target spell" instead of "AoE Spell" when hitting only one target.

Unique: Blocks 8 damage from single target attacks and spells from champions. That's the direct quote. Wouldn't that mean that damage would be blocked from say a Ryze q? Single target spell.

Try to get something mentioned in the next patch notes. I don't recall seeing it on any of them nor could I find them just now. I don't think a lot of people realize the change.

So with regards to jax, does that mean his "single target spells" are blocked twice, once by the base auto and once by the spell itself? Thanks for writing that up btw, love finding out how these obscure interactions work.

Edit: Also, ryze e. I know it's considered aoe for the purposes of spellvamp and such, but does that mean it's also AOE for dorans shield? It doesn't deal damage to all targets at the same time, as per your wording, so I was wondering if there's a loophole there.

It says it blocks damage from single target spells ingame though. Is Akali's Q AOE or does her spellvamp look higher then it is?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they always have. IIRC, single-target damage-over-time spells only give a 15% slow from Rylai's Crystal Scepter (because the full slow your accumulate very quickly through a DoT spells repeated applications) but apply full spell vamp (since they are still a single-target spell).
