He's a really cool champion to use, and even while he's not being used in the professional scene atm he's still a strong mid laner. I say if you want him, go for it.

But, don't spend RP on champions if you can help it. Save your real cash for skins, because you can just save up IP for a champion.

I sometimes buy champs for RP if they're normally 975 and I don't have the IP. I wouldn't go crazy buying champs at 975RP though. Jayce is alright to play though. He was much better to play before the tank meta became a thing. If he doesn't get fed early, he's useless. Playing him top is usually not fun.
