Having trouble CS'ing as Trist

Hi there!

I haven't tried ranked yet because I am literally terrified by the thought of it, but I do main Tristana in normals. My main problem with Tristana is what I feel is her dismal early CS.

To give some more details;

  • I find it extremely hard to CS before I get IE.
  • I live in EU but play on NA because of friends playing here - I have 175ms stable ping.
  • I run flat AD/MR/armour runes and 2xAS and 1xAD quints like most ADC's do.

My main issue is, I cannot freeze my lane/CS effectively. Trist's passive knocks my last hit rhythm out of sync constantly, so I passively push more than any other ADC whilst usually only getting 1/2 the CS of my lane opponent. I also find it incredibly hard to CS under tower, which happens a majority of the time since enemy bot lane can just shove minions to my tower and laugh.

However, I don't think i'm a bad Trist. I can usually get a pretty good score. I just always feel like i'm playing behind since I always have half the CS of my opponent, although I usually have more kills.

Is there anything I can do to fix this, or is it just me being bad at CS'ing? I don't have this problem on other ADC's ive played (Sivir, Ashe, etc).

Anyways, thanks for reading. Trist is one of my favourite champs, but I just feel like she's... weak. Her early range feels dismal and she fires so slow that I constantly have to burn rapid fire to kill two creeps if they're going to die simultaneously.

Hey bud! sometimes I start Q lvl 1 on trist to prevent that auto pushing that trist's E does. You are right, you can never freeze a lane very well with tristana. I have seen some players hold on to their levels and not level up their E ability and sit on 1 point in Q and W until level 5 or even 6. Downside is you cannot trade with your lane opponent, But you can CS better under tower and get a good freeze in. Never tried this strategy myself but it might work for you.Tristana

P.S don't worry about ranked, play loose and normal. If you get all tensed up you will not play your best.

That's a really interesting idea! Saving up my points until I have a kill window, then maxing E and smacking them hard - I like it! I might give that a go to see how it goes. Thanks for the help!

Tristana will always push her lane, you cant really fight that. What you should do is practice in a custom match by yourself and try and CS as well as you can without missing any, and try and use your explosive passive stylishly by using it to score a few kills with one auto. The good thing about shoving your lane up is that is pressures the enemy bot lane. If the enemy ADC has to CS under tower, they dont have much time to try and harass you, because they must work to get CS or fall terribly behind. The cons of that is that it attracts the enemy teams attention and you may get ganked more often, However in your case you say the enemy shoves to YOUR tower, which is odd. You complain about pushing the wave, then complain about the enemy shoving to your tower right afterwards. The two are opposite.

Yeah, sorry, I meant it as an either/or scenario - either I cs and E passive pushes hard, or enemy team just shoves hard because they know I can't CS under tower - sorry for the confusion!

You're right about the pushing though, since Trist has probably one of the best ADC escapes in the game, which naturally means she can push more vigorously without so much danger I guess.

Yea, her ability to peel for herself is extreme with both her long ranged jump and her AoE knockback ult. Using her pushing powers to apply massive pressure to bot lane to purposely attract enemy attention is a legit strat as long as you know they're coming and can back off safely. If you can make the enemy waste manpower and time to stop you from taking towers, you're helping the team significantly
