How is this Maokai Aram build?

If you look in the link, I was building Maokai to be an on-hit threat with sapling toss. In addition to the buffs each item has, I chose them for the on-hit abilities:

  • Morellonomicon - for its grievous wounds
  • Luden's Echo - for bonus dmg + splash
  • Rylai's Sceptor - for movement impairment
  • Liandry's Torment - for the DoT

I was working on adding void staff for some MR penetration but the game didnt last long enough

I have some questions though:

Will the splash damage from Luden's Echo also trigger the abilities from the other items?

Rylai is really weak on Maokai after the slow rework (only the strongest slow is applied). His Q at max rank slows the enemy by 48%, and Rylai's by 40%. Rylai's passive is ignored. His W snares the enemy, so slow is irrelevant. His E slows by 50%, so Rylai's passive is ignored.

His ultimate is the only spell that can make use of Rylai's. Try switching it out for a Rod of Ages. It gives you HP and AP just like Rylai's, but also mana. You probably won't need another mana regen item because of its passive mana regen (or since you took Clarity, it's better to have more mana than mana regen).

Luden's is great since you're slow and it gives you much needed MS. You also have a dash and low CD spells.

I would also suggest an attack speed item like Nashor's Tooth or maybe Wit's End. In ARAM everyone spams spells, so the attack speed really helps regain your HP. Especially since you had a Ryze (who spams spell) and Skarner (his Q is on 2 second CD or something), the AS would have been really helpful.

I'd call you out on low MR in your build since Maokai has no MR scaling, but since they didn't have that much magic damage I guess it's okay.

Luden's will proc spell effects, and will thus apply the abilities of items like item 3116 and item 3151.

The problem with saplings is that they have a built-in AoE slow already, so you don't need item 3116 at all. There's also not a whole lot of ways to improve the sapling's impact, since they're AoE and don't gain the benefit of effects like item 1315 and item 3042, and spellvamp will only be applied at 1/3rd effectiveness.

As far as a sapling oriented build is concerned, after grabbing item 3165 item 3151 item 3285, you're pretty much down to building AP and Mpen for more damage. I suppose you could slip a item 3152 in there to sustain a bit from all the sapling hits and to round out your CDR, but don't expect too much from it.

awesome. Im not fully knowledgeable in effects and stacking versus ignored and what not, that is great input so I wont even bother with rylai's then and then just go for deathcap or other AP builders, or something for diving into a team batter, like armor or something
